Education

Hulme attended Epsom College where he earned A-Levels in Mathematics, Economics, and English. He then went on to Kingston University, completing a BA (Hons) in Business Studies.[2]

Career

Hulme began his professional career at Redland Roof Tiles Limited, where he worked while also attending university.[3] Hulme has been involved in teaching and mentoring entrepreneurs.[4] He started in technical sales and went on to become a product manager in one of the world’s largest roof tile manufacturers. He later co-founded Frame Express Plc, a London-based fast picture framing company, which grew to 16 retail stores in London. The business was sold to The Oliver Group Plc in 1989.[5]

In 1992, Hulme co-founded Card Connection Limited, a greeting card publishing company. It introduced the franchised distribution of greeting cards to convenience retail outlets and became a market leader in the UK and the Republic of Ireland.[6] The company grew to service 17,500 retail outlets, employing over 100 franchisees and generating 16 million[clarification needed] of greeting card sales annually. Card Connection was sold in 2008 to UK Greetings, a subsidiary of American Greetings Inc., and remains one of their key divisions.[7]

Hulme has been involved in teaching and mentoring entrepreneurs. He became an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Kingston University where he mentored students, judged startup contests, and taught various entrepreneurial finance workshops.[8] He served as a programme tutor for the Goldman Sachs Small Businesses Programme at University College London.[9][10] He also serves as the Programme Director for the MSc Entrepreneurship at University College London School of Management and is currently a professor teaching entrepreneurial finance.[11]
