Etymology
editThe initial name of the village was Sokolčí. The name was derived from the word sokolník, i.e. 'falconer'.[2]
Geography
editSokoleč is located about 11 kilometres (7 mi) south of Nymburk and 40 km (25 mi) east of Prague. It lies in a flat landscape of the Central Elbe Table.

Transport
editThere are no railways or major roads passing through the municipality. The village lies entirely within the Velim railway test circuit.
