Sri Lanka has participated in the World Championships in Athletics since 1983. Their first-ever medal was a silver and was won by Susanthika Jayasinghe at the 1997 World Championships in Women's 200 metres.[1] She also won the bronze medal at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka.[2]
