Sri Rajagopala Swamy Temple, Bagavathapuram

Sri Rajagopala Swamy Temple, Bagavathapuram is a Hindu temple located in Thiruvidaimarudur, Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu.

It holds the shrine of Sri Rajagopalaswamy who is Vasudeva Perumal which is dedicated to Vishnu Bhagwan. This temple is situated on the northern banks of River Kaveri. This temple is 1000-2000 years old and it is maintained by Archaeological Survey of India.

This temple is facing towards east with single prakaram. The temple is in complete ruins. The Temple was brick construction. There is no Rajagopuram. There is an 8 pillared Maha Mandapam immediately after the entrance. Presiding deity is called as Vasudeva Perumal. He graces the devotees along with his consorts Sridevi and Bhoodevi. He is having four hands. Upper two hands are holding Shanga and Chakra, Lower right hand is showing Abhaya Hastha and lower left hand is resting on his hip. The utsava idols are Rajagopalaswamy with his consorts Rukmani & Sathyabama, Lord Rama with Sita, Lakshmana & Anjaneya, Sudarshana, Gopala Bhagavathar and Shengamala Thayar. All the Utsava Idols are kept in Thirunageswaram Temple due to security reasons. Mother is called as Shenbaga Valli Thayar. She is housed in a separate shrine. Vruddha Anjaneyar is located to the left side of Maha Mandapam. Ramar Shrine is facing south. He is holding Bow and Arrow. There are shrines and idols of Thumbikai Azhwar, Nagaraja, Kalinga Narthana, Nammazhvar and Ramanuja in the Temple premises.
