Stéphanie Riso (born 27 February 1976) is a senior French budget official of the European Union.
Life
editShe studyied international economics and finance, and worked at CPR Bank. In May 2000, she joined the Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs of the European Commission ("DG EcoFin") .[1]
From September 2007 to February 2010, she was a member of the cabinet of the European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs, Joaquín Almunia . From February 2010 to September 2011, she was deputy chief of staff of Olli Rehn . From September 2011 to April 2015, she was head of the "fiscal policies and surveillance" unit. From May 2015 to October 2016, she was head of the “multi-annual financial framework” unit.[citation needed]
She was Michel Barnier's principal advisor for negotiating Brexit, from October 2016 to December 2019.[2]
From December 2019 to February 2023, she was deputy head of cabinet in the office of the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.[1]
In 2017, she was ranked by Politico among the twenty " women who shape Brussels ".[2] In 2023, she was ranked by the same media fifth in the list of "top 40 influencers" in Brussels .[3]
She was then tasked by the latter with conducting negotiations between the European Union and Switzerland relating to the establishment of a new institutional framework agreement, until the Swiss Federal Council put an end to them on 26 May 2021 .[4]
On 16 February 2023, the European Commission appointed her Director-General of the Budget Directorate [5]
