History

edit

Stripes was formed in 2018 by Izzy MK after the dissolution of her debut Riot grrl band The Frecks.[1][2] The group began playing shows at DIY venues and Club Congress in Tucson, Arizona. Their debut record 520 was recorded live on tape by Matt Rendon at Midtown Island Studios was released on cassette in 2019 via Burger Records.[2][3] Following the release of the album, they began performing with Surf Curse, Sasami, Wand, and Together Pangea.[4] How Should I Know?, the group’s second full-length album was independently released in 2021. Later that year also saw the release of the five-track EP, Harming on December 29 which included the single "Bleu", co-written and produced by Kevin Dickey of Pebble Napkins.

In 2022, after relocating the project to New York City, Izzy began writing for Stripes as a solo project.[5] Releasing an EP titled it’s on me in 2022 followed by EPs unanswered questions / unknown motifs and disillusionmentography in 2023. In 2024, after using Craigslist to find new bandmates, Riley Morgan, Mitchell Davis, and Austin "Chappie" Chappell, the reformed group released Running + Hiding, recorded by Ian Rose at Daisy Chain Studios.
