Suleiman Yunusovich Kuchukov

Staff Captain Suleiman Yunusovich Kuchukov MC (11 July 1889 – 2 November 1931) was a Russian Muslim staff captain in the early 20th century who served during the years 1906 and 1931.

Personal life

Suleiman was born on 11 July 1889 to Muslim parents, natives of Syr Darya. He graduated the 2nd Orenburg Cadets Corps and Aleksandrovsk Military School. On 1 January 1915 he married a Muslim woman and had two daughters.

Military career

On 15 August 1908, Suleiman was made second lieutenant in the 1st Turkestan Rifle Battalion (which saw the Rjepetsky brothers, Karl and Vladimir serving in it beforehand), which was deployed to the 1st Turkestan Rifle Regiment in 1910. Between 1910 and 1914, Suleiman was promoted to the rank of lieutenant. On 1 October 1914, Suleiman was wounded in the right arm during battle in World War One, this resulted to him being awarded the Order of St. George 4th Class in early 1915 and was also awarded the Military Cross the same year. In December 1915, Suleiman was promoted to the rank of Staff Captain and was assigned to the Main. In April 1915, Suleiman would be awarded his third decoration, the Order of St. Anna 4th Class. He would also be awarded the Order of St. Stanislaus 2nd Class in 1916.

When the Russian Civil War and the Basmachi Movement first broke out, Suleiman was sided with the Basmachi, who were allied and supported by the White Army before suddenly, circa 1919, aligning with the Red Army with whom he would remain until his unexpected death in 1931 due to unknown reasons.
