Sumantra Ray is a British licensed medical doctor and a registered nutritionist. He is the Founding Chair and executive director of the NNEdPro (The Need for Nutrition Education/Innovation Programme).[1][2] He holds a fractional appointment as a full professor of Global Nutrition, Health and Disease at Ulster University.[3]

He is also the co-founder and Chair of the BMJ Nutrition, Prevention & Health.[4] Ray has published over 200 scientific papers. He is the editor of the Oxford Handbook of Clinical and Healthcare Research[5] and the Elsevier Essentials of Nutrition in Medicine and Healthcare.[6]

From 2008 to 2010, Ray was an NIHR Public Health Fellow and Corfield Scholar at Selwyn College, Cambridge. From 2010 to 2018, he held a Senior Clinician Scientist position with the Medical Research Council in the United Kingdom.[7][8] From 2019 to 2021, he was the Director of Research in Food Security, Health and Society at the University of Cambridge.[9]

Ray has been a Bye-Fellow of Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge and a Fellow of Wolfson College, Cambridge.[10][11]
