It seem like other sources list his death at 1059, and born about 1002. --FinnBjork 16:44, 15 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Encycolpedia Britannica (1960) gives his death year as 1062 (Harold II article). A & V Palmer, The Chronology of British History, gives the year of the succession of his son, Edwin as Earl of Mercia as 1062. (RJP 20:36, 15 October 2006 (UTC))Reply

Move?

edit

Since Ælfgar also was Earl of East Anglia, wouldn't it be just as well to move the article to the more generic Ælfgar Leofricson? Havard 14:23, 6 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

It could even go to Ælfgar I suppose, and dab any other Ælfgars. Henson's Guide to Late Anglo-Saxon England has an "Ælfgar, Bishop of Elmham" (1001-1012; died ?), "Ælfgar, Ealdorman of Essex" (c9th, father of Queen Æthelflæd, 2nd wife of Edmund) and "Ælfgar, Sheriff of Berkshire" (witness 1007), as well as an "Ælfgar" who he lists as a "kinsman" of King Eadwig. Of these, an article on the Bishop would be at possible, but that could be Ælfgar of Ely or Ælfgar of Elmham. Angus McLellan (Talk) 14:56, 6 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
That would also be an option, of course. I see there's already an Alfgar redirected to Ælfgar, Earl of Mercia Havard 16:41, 6 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Possible mother besides Godiva?

edit

Is there a name given for the other woman who could be his mother aside from Godiva, or is the idea that his mother could be someone else based entirely on Godiva and Leofric's marriage date as opposed with Ælfgar's birth date? Was there any evidence that Leofric was married to someone else? I'm interested in looking into it, as this family is on my family tree and I've just got a big question mark for Ælfgar's mother (though I think it'll probably end up having to stay that way.) Thanks! - Indy Gold 18:36, 9 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Our disambiguation between the 3 people of this name looks very confused. PatGallacher (talk) 01:31, 2 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Birthdate of 1030 impossible

edit
I have removed the 1030 birthdate as is clearly impossible given the fact that his children were born either in the 1030s or 1040s. His daughter Edith married Gruffydd of Wales in 1058. Also Leofric was born in 968 which would have made him 62 at Elfgar's birth. I'd hazard a date in the early 1000s for his birth.--jeanne (talk) 09:47, 4 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Where's WallyBurgheard?

edit

What about Burgheard f. Ælfgar (d. April/May 1061, buried at Reims)? He isn't even mentioned here. Not having the ODNB article, I have no idea what that says, but surely he's mentioned in that? Angus McLellan (Talk) 23:20, 21 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

All that ODNB article says he may have been the father of Godric of Corby. I've got some stuff on this guy at home. When I get back at the end of the week I can make an article. Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 03:30, 22 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
I have the Frankland festschrift for Jinty Nelson. It has an article on him. That's why I was asking. Anyway, if he's mentioned in the ODNB as a son of Ælfgar that's the main thing. Ta, Angus McLellan (Talk) 10:46, 22 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
