Clean up
editThere are a lot of errors on this page... I'll do my best to clean it up.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.62.246.217 (talk) 21:59, 1 August 2007
It's pronounced beh-DARD. I ought to know, its my own last name. 208.58.6.224 01:20, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
English-speaking media refer to him and others with this name as beh-DARD, regardless of whether they are French- or English-speakers, since it is most likely pronounced one way in one language and another way in another language. Many other French-Canadian surnames operate the same way.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.58.6.224 (talk • contribs) 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Pronunciation
editHe's Franco-Ontarian. His first toungue is French. That's how he pronounces it. Look at the Carlos Beltran article, the Rudy Seanez (it's say-ahn-yez, not see-uh-nez) article.... look at Vladimir Putin's article. How you, or the rest of English-speaking America personally pronounces a name is irrelevant; somebody who speaks Spanish would pronounce Bédard differently than somebody who speaks Polish. What is relavent, and what belongs on Wikipedia as a pronunciation aid, is how the name is pronounced in one's native toungue. Please read the Acute accent article, especially the Use in English section.... the ´ is on top of the E for a reason:
"French. Used only on é. It is known as accent aigu, and distinguishes é [e] from è, ê [ɛ], and e [ə]."
It's BAY-dard. Riphamilton 18:17, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
- It's beh-dar(Why? - because in the French language the last letter of the word is usually not pronounced, unless followed by a vowel.[1]) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.241.222.131 (talk • contribs) 16 November 2007 (UTC)
