Revirvlkodlaku, the tables themselves are clearly marked, in bold, with the column headings Year, Title, Role. It is absolutely redundant to add an extra line, directly above the column headings, to tell readers that this table shows year, title, and role. Do you suspect that readers of this article are incapable of understanding the column headings, and need to be told multiple times, on consecutive lines? The column headings are fine, all by themselves. Jmg38 (talk) 17:32, 12 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Jmg38, I do not appreciate the fact that you first reverted, then decided to talk to me about this issue; that is rather sneaky. I also don't appreciate your tone. Just because you do not understand the reasoning behind something doesn't mean it is pointless. The extra line is there for those who are unable to read and use accessibility tools. This was explained to me a while ago by another user, and I have been adding the extra line ever since. I don't have the WP link to show you my rationale, but perhaps you can look it up for yourself. In the meantime, please leave the line there. Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 19:43, 12 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Revirvlkodlaku!!! I just found that info as well, having been nudged along by your original response. Was coming here to send you "Thank you, learning something every day. The shortcut MOS:TABLECAPTION jumps straight to an explanation, with samples of right and wrong, based on what you said.", but you beat me by a few minutes (I was reading the CAPTION details, and other material, at that MOS page). Surprised this hasn't come up from someone else before, and surprised by the fact that the vast majority of tables in articles do not have a caption, given how specific the instructions are at the MOS page. I will definitely be adding captions from now on, and leaving a <!-- MOS:TABLECAPTION --> note beside the captions, for others to check this out.
