Öndörkhaan → Chinggis City – The Mongolian parliament, State Great Khural, has voted to rename Ondorkhaan to Chinggis City ("Чингис хот")after Genghis Khan, who was born in the same province on Nov 18, 2013.[1][2][3] Altaihunters (talk) 01:29, 25 December 2013 (UTC)
- I assume you mean the vote was on November 18, 2013, not Genghis Khan's birthday. — AjaxSmack 03:29, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
- Sort of. They voted to change the name of the city on Genghis Khan's birthday, which is a national holiday. Altaihunters (talk) 08:01, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose - I think this is somewhat premature, as almost all English sources currently still use the traditional name. Per WP:OFFICIALNAME and WP:COMMONNAME, we should wait until that is the case, just as we call the Indian city Bangalore rather than Bengaluru. Once it is established that the name change has been adopted by the reliable sources, we can change it. — Amakuru (talk) 14:24, 2 January 2014 (UTC)
