Anselm of Canterbury was born in Aosta in Upper Burgundy (but now part of the Republic of Italy) and was descended, according to his Wikipedia page, from Lombards, Burgundians and Bavarians. Although some of these had political connections with the rulers of the Franks, to describe Anselm as "Frankish" is unilluminating. Zoetropo (talk) 02:44, 11 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
