Battle of Megiddo

edit

The statement about the Battle of Megiddo on the page is inaccurate and very misleading. There has been long standing disagreements even on what day Tuthmosis III said the battle was. It could be I Shemsu 20 or I shemsu 21. According to Faulkner (which seems to be an accepted theory) I Shemsu 20 is the date for the battle. The details of the academic discussion are a bit too much to outline here, but see O'Connor, David and Cline, Eric H. Thutmose III: A New Biography University of Michigan Press. 2006 ISBN 978-04721146721 pages 416-420. Proposed dates for the battle of Megiddo include:

  • 11 May 1468 (Parker)
  • 16 May 1482 (Wente)

The battle took place in year 23 of Tuthmosis, but the year of his accession is still debated. The proposed dates are:

  • 1490 (Parker)
  • 1504 (Wente, van Siclen)
  • 1479 (von Beckerath, Krauss, Barta, Hornung, Murnane and others.)

There lead to the battle taking place in 1468, 1482, or 1457 or so respectively.--AnnekeBart (talk) 14:31, 14 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Destruction of Knossos

edit

This date is purely speculative. This is an outdated theory from the mid 20th Century. The most recent hypothesis is that this is when LMIB ends and LMII starts, not LMIII. Date should be listed as speculative, and other theories included. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aus star1 (talkcontribs) 09:48, 12 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
