The 18th Miracle: My g.g. grandmother, Sophia Fryer, (b. Isle of Wight, England, married to John Geary) was in this company. On Friday, August 22, 1856, 75 miles from Florence, Nebraska, while the company was resting near Shell Creek, one of the heavy wagons ran over Sophia's foot, crushing it. She asked for and received a priesthood blessing, and was able to 'walk a considerable distance' the following day. She gave birth to a daughter in Echo Canyon (which they named 'Echo Workman Geary', after the canyon, and one of the rescuers who stayed behind to help the family, Bro. Workman). This 3-day delay resulted in the family being the last of the handcart company to reach Salt Lake. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 107.77.229.47 (talk) 21:37, 14 June 2016 (UTC)
