First Stab at Stats Calcs
editBecause of a comment on Walkem's biography page, and elsewhere in other Wikipedia pages, concerning Vancouver Island having "disproportionate" representation, it provoked me to start giving representation-rate figures for each riding just to establish what's what numerically - although there was good reason why 19th C politicians didn't follow the modern bias towards rep-by-pop (inherently an urban-oriented voting system, where larger populations subsume the democratic rights of lesser-populated areas within the same voting districts); and in point of fact it was the Mainland which had the disproportionate representation (Kootenay, for instance, had no reason to be a two-member riding; if Victoria City had the same number of seats/voter.....well, there'd not be much point in the Kootenay or anywhere else joining in a "democracy" with the Island. Anyway, I guess I'll work out a table format for these figures; and I also have to figure out how the multiple member ridings worked; I think it was two votes per voter in a two-member riding, three per three, etc; which affects the ratios again (maybe).Skookum1 09:08, 5 January 2006 (UTC)
