Assessment
editLead section
editJúcaro links to 'Venezuela, Cuba' - is that correct? (minor point)
- When you search "Júcaro" on Wikipedia, it redirects there--12george1 (talk) 22:42, 20 September 2019 (UTC)
mi needs to be written in full (miles) each time it occurs in the article.
- Fixed--12george1 (talk) 22:42, 20 September 2019 (UTC)
The image in the infobox was produced by NAOO, perhaps they should be credited. (minor point)
- Actually, it was the Weather Bureau, which has been known as the National Weather Service since 1970. NOAA only posted it online--12george1 (talk) 22:42, 20 September 2019 (UTC)
- Understood.
Meteological history
editLink 'barometric' (possibly)
- It is linked in the second sentence of the first paragraph in that section--12george1 (talk) 22:42, 20 September 2019 (UTC)
- Reference 2 (USNHC) makes no sense to me at all - your mistake or my ignorance?
- This part of a template. The "United States" part might not be completely necessary. It's simply "National Hurricane Center"--12george1 (talk) 22:42, 20 September 2019 (UTC)
- Probably on a minor point, but I still don't get it - when I check the reference, it leads to is a lot of tabulated figures - is that what you see, and if so, what does it mean? Amitchell125 (talk) 05:53, 21 September 2019 (UTC)
Prepations and impact
edit...were reported. - by whom?
- The Times--12george1 (talk) 22:42, 20 September 2019 (UTC)
Change ...killed a girl and injured injured two men… to 'killed a girl, and injured two men'.
- Fixed--12george1 (talk) 22:42, 20 September 2019 (UTC)
- Are all the words in quotation marks ("tremendous equinoctial storm" and "terrific force") actual quotations? The source of the words should be given if they are.
- Those quotations are available in Louisiana Hurricane History by David Roth. [1] He cites Wade, Michael G. (the last citation on the last page) for that information. I'm not sure if Wade himself said those things or if an actual survivor said that because Wade's publication isn't freely available online--12george1 (talk) 22:42, 20 September 2019 (UTC)
- Minor point, but I would consider removing the quote marks, as you are not sure that they were spoken by someone, and imo they look in the article as if they were. Amitchell125 (talk) 05:53, 21 September 2019 (UTC)
the Beardstown sunk - It would be useful to know what kind of a ship/boat the Beardstown was.
- Beardstown was a steamer--12george1 (talk) 22:42, 20 September 2019 (UTC)
Page numbers are needed for references 1 and 4 throughout the article.
- Done, but references 2 and 3 are both a long single page--12george1 (talk) 22:42, 20 September 2019 (UTC)
This section also has text that gives the appearance of being quotations. Who said "terrific gale", "forests just cut down" and "taking almost everything within its reach"?
- I re-phrased to get rid of the first quotation, as it doesn't exactly add anything important to the article. The other two are both from The Daily News (Galveston newspaper)--12george1 (talk) 22:42, 20 September 2019 (UTC)
Consider replacing downed with 'brought down' (ignore if 'downed' is correct in American English).
- It is correct in American English, but I think 'brought down' sounds better--12george1 (talk) 22:42, 20 September 2019 (UTC)
Lots of 'several's in the article - if you can, be more specific.
- I can cut down a few, but most of the sources literally say "several" without any sort of specification--12george1 (talk) 22:42, 20 September 2019 (UTC)
Please delete On Mustang Island, several chickens roosting in the trees drowned. as being a little 'unencyclopaedic'.
Consider improving the prose by changing Effective October 1, 1875, hurricane warning flags were to be hoisted to 'From October 1, 1875, hurricane warning flags were hoisted…'
- Fixed--12george1 (talk) 22:42, 20 September 2019 (UTC)
Reference 5 - Can you have 2 newspapers here?
- It appears that The Times (London) originally wrote the story and the Chicago Tribune published it, similar to how a lot of news stories today will originate from the Associated Press, Agence France-Presse, United Press International, etc.--12george1 (talk) 22:42, 20 September 2019 (UTC)
Reference 8 needs to include the page number - p. 22.

editCan there be an explanation for why the first 3 links are included?
Not much that needs to be sorted here. I am placing the article on hold, for a week, but I am on holiday from tomorrow until 27 September - I'll check things as soon as I am back home. Amitchell125 (talk) 20:22, 20 September 2019 (UTC)
Passed
editPassing this now, many thanks for your fast work and for what you've done to the article. The couple of point still not quite sorted don't stop it being a GA. Amitchell125 (talk) 06:10, 20 September 2019 (UTC)
