Talk:1890 Caernarvon Boroughs by-election

How long was Lloyd-George MP? Clarification needed

edit

This page states he was MP until he obtained his Earldom (on 1 January 1945). However he did not live to take his seat in the House of Lords, and his Wikipedia biography gives his last date as MP for Carnarvon Boroughs as his death on 26 March 1945 - which is correct? Despite this technical question, his career stands as the longest a British Prime Minister has enjoyed representing one seat throughout life, 54 years.Cloptonson (talk) 22:17, 9 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

The intention to confer an earldom was announced in the New Year Honours on 1 January 1945 ("No. 36866". The London Gazette (Supplement). 1 January 1945.), and the Letters Patent were dated 12 February ("No. 36938". The London Gazette. 13 February 1945.). The writ was moved for a new election in the vacant seat on 1 March (Hansard). Opera hat (talk) 14:05, 10 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
