Not sure if we need to. There was to be a challenge with Sydney, and the trustees considered the Toronto-Victoria series to be a challenge. So there is no black and white. Before, people thought the 1914 series was unofficial, but that's not right. ʘ alaney2k ʘ (talk) 19:59, 6 May 2011 (UTC)

Thinking further... How to classify the Toronto vs. Montreal series that preceded this, since the Stanley Cup was also awarded Toronto then? This is why I wanted to create championship articles for each year from 1893 to 1914, when the Stanley Cup was awarded more than once a calendar year. That would make everything neat and tidy. With a 1914 Stanley Cup Finals article now, where does that preceding series go? To a 1914 Stanley Cup championship article? It gets a tad confusing. Why don't we revert this back to 1914 Stanley Cup championship, list the Montreal series and the Victoria series as a World Series. Jmj713 (talk) 15:57, 6 May 2011 (UTC)

When I read the Globe articles for 1914, they did not mention the Stanley Cup in the reporting for Toronto-Montreal, while the Toronto-Victoria series was called the Stanley Cup series. In fact, it was going to possibly be a three-team tournament for the Cup. I'll grab some text.
