Infobox and lead

edit
  • The BBFC reference isn't working for me.
  Fixed Chompy Ace 01:49, 14 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • The reference used for the countries that made the film also lists India and Spain.
Fixed changed reference to The Numbers, only to have UK and US Chompy Ace 01:59, 14 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • The double use of the name Mendes in the first sentence seems repetitive. I suggest rewording it or changing part to "produced by Sam Mendes, who co-wrote the film with..."

  • The last two sentences in the first paragraph seem vague. No reason why the names of both soldiers can't be mentioned, along with the names of the actors that played them. Additionally, it doesn't sound good when two consecutive sentences end with the same word, this time it being the word "attack".
Fixed sentence, with the last sentence in the first paragraph removed Chompy Ace 23:59, 13 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • "rest of the cast the following" --> "rest of the cast joining the following"
  Done Chompy Ace 23:56, 13 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • No problems with the final paragraph.
  Done Chompy Ace 23:56, 13 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Something about the lead just doesn't feel right. It goes from who made the film, to who's in it, and then to what it's based on. The entire paragraph should be reworded, and this might be a stretch, but here's an example of how it should be (from who made it, to what it's based on, and then, to whose in it):

1917 is a 2019 British war film directed and produced by Sam Mendes, who co-wrote the film with Krysty Wilson-Cairns. Partially inspired by stories told to Mendes by his paternal grandfather Alfred about his service during World War I, the film takes place after the German retreat to the Hindenburg Line during Operation Alberich, and follows two British soldiers, Will Schofield (George MacKay) and Tom Blake (Dean-Charles Chapman), who are ordered to deliver a message calling off a doomed offensive attack. Mark Strong, Andrew Scott, Richard Madden, Claire Duburcq, Colin Firth, and Benedict Cumberbatch also star in supporting roles.

Don't forget to re-add the reference after "World War I".

Plot

edit
  • This section is 556 words, so no problems with WP:FILMPLOT.
  Done Chompy Ace 23:54, 13 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Remove the comma after "consciousness at night".

Cast

edit
  • Looks good.

Production

edit

Pre-production

edit
  • Instead of being vague, mention that Amblin Partners and New Republic Pictures acquired the project on 18 June 2018.
  Done Chompy Ace 14:54, 14 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Remove the comma after "directing".
  Done Chompy Ace 14:52, 14 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • "The same month" --> "That same month"
  Done Chompy Ace 14:52, 14 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • "the project in 18 June 2018" --> "the project on 18 June 2018"

Writing

edit
  • A lot of quoting in this section, so try shortening them.
  Done Chompy Ace 22:47, 14 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Filming

edit
  Fixed Chompy Ace 22:32, 14 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • The first and second references after "Shepperton Studios" are dead.
  Fixed Chompy Ace 14:57, 14 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • None of the references used say that filming started on 1 April. Luckily, I found one that does.
  Done Chompy Ace 22:40, 14 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Music

edit
  • This one-sentence section feels short. Try expanding it by mentioning how the soundtrack was made, and/or, some specific music created for the trailer/promotions/film.
Done The standalone soundtrack article for the film is not notable, as WP:RSP shows Amazon unreliable, so moving the entire soundtrack text to the film's subsection itself. Chompy Ace 22:13, 14 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Make this its own section.
  Done Chompy Ace 02:11, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Release

edit
  • Combine the first three sentences in this section into one paragraph.
  Done Chompy Ace 22:14, 14 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • "at the 2019 Royal Film Performance" --> "at the 2019 Royal Film Performance in London"

Reception

edit

Box office

edit
  • Shouldn't "$225,679,098" be rounded to "$225.7 million", rather than "$225.6 million"?
  Done Chompy Ace 02:13, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • "$384.8 million" --> "$384.9 million". Additionally, change the numbers in the infobox and lead to "$384.9 million" rather than "$384.6" or "$384".
  Done Chompy Ace 02:13, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • This reference also doesn't mention the "11 venues".
  Fixed Chompy Ace 02:20, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • This reference says the film finished 3rd in its second weekend of wide release, behind Bad Boys for Life and Dolittle, not 2nd.
  Fixed Chompy Ace 02:20, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
  Fixed Chompy Ace 02:20, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • "During the weekend of the Academy Awards, the film made $9.2 million" --> "During the four-day-weekend of the Academy Awards, the film made $9.3 million".
  Done Chompy Ace 02:17, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • "finishing third behind newcomer Bad Boys for Life" --> "finishing third behind Bad Boys for Life and Dolittle" or simply "finishing third."
  Done Chompy Ace 21:21, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Critical response

edit
  • The average grade from "CinemaScore" needs a reference.
  • Nevermind, a user had removed the reference. I have reverted their edits.
Already done per consistency with other film articles; Once Upon a Time in Hollywood#Critical response and The Fate of the Furious#Critical response are the examples. Chompy Ace 21:43, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • This part of the Times quote, "...and the major accomplishment of 1917, the latest film to join the canon, may be that its makers figured out what the generals could not: a way to advance" is not in this reference.
  Done removed Chompy Ace 21:35, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • "war picture... that turns" --> "war picture [...] that turns"
  Done Chompy Ace 21:36, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Accolades

edit
  • The reference for the Oscars and Critics' Choice Awards should be verdicts, not simply lists of nominations.
  Done Chompy Ace 21:54, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • Everything else looks good.
  Done Chompy Ace 21:54, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Historical accuracy

edit
  • The fact that the operation took place from "9 February and 20 March 1917" needs a reference.

  • "was manned... As for" --> "was manned [...] As for" or "was manned. As for"
  Done Chompy Ace 23:28, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Done removed sentence Chompy Ace 23:35, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • The sentence starting with "The 2nd Devonshire Regiment was never brigaded" needs a reference.
  Done removed Chompy Ace 23:39, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
  Fixed I have changed from url-status to url-access Chompy Ace 23:38, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
  • The reference with the "failed verification tag" should be fixed.
