Flugfélag Íslands
editAbout the confusion about which one of the two or three Flugfélag Íslands airlines this was then according to the Icelandic Air Museum
- It was founded on 3 June 1937 as Flugfélag Akureyrar
- On 13 March 1940 its name was changed to Flugfélag Íslands, the same company that operated the plane in the crash.
- In 1973 Flugfélag Íslands and Loftleiðir merged under the name Flugleiðir hf.
- In 1997 Flugleiðir's domestic part merged with Flugfélag Norðurlands under the name Flugfélag Íslands
- In May 2017 the airline was rebranded under the name Air Iceland Connect.
What is now Icelandair was the international part of the company Flugleiðir hf., basically just the english translation of the name. The domestic part was called Flugleiðir. They had the same logo 1 2 -- Dammit_steve (talk) 22:41, 2 March 2018 (UTC)
Recent move
editAlvaldi pointed out to me on my talk page that on 18 February, Aviationwikiflight moved this article from 1947 Héðinsfjörður air crash to its current title, 1947 Flugfélag Íslands DC-3 crash, "Per WP:AVTITLE". I note that the aviation WikiProject prefers to name aviation accident/incident articles for the airline (and if possible the flight number), and I recognise that a redirect remains, but there is a WP:COMMONNAME issue here; the crash is generally referred to in terms of the location, Héðinsfjörður. Note the name of the corresponding Icelandic article, Flugslysið í Héðinsfirði. Alvaldi suggests that "plane crash" is more accurate than "air crash"; I think the move should be substantially reverted and the article moved to 1947 Héðinsfjörður plane crash. Note also the similar title 1986 Ljósufjöll air crash. Yngvadottir (talk) 02:52, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
- I agree, the crash is primarly referred to in sources to the Héðinsfjörður location, not the airline or the plane type. 1947 Héðinsfjörður plane crash is probably the best descriptive English title for the crash. Alvaldi (talk) 10:45, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
- I've discussed with Alvaldi and I proposed, that for this page + another one, to keep the title name with the original format but replacing air crash with plane crash, then, to have above the infobox, the original title + the title that I've put.
- Ex: On the article of the Smolensk air disaster, we can see that both the common name and the flight name.
- Does that sound ok to you? Aviationwikiflight (talk) 15:42, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Aviationwikiflight and Alvaldi: Yes, please, move it to 1947 Héðinsfjörður plane crash. (I don't have any big feelings about "plane crash"; I probably chose "air crash" because some crashes involve helicopters, but I suspect there's an ENGVAR issue, so I'm fine with "plane crash".)
