However neither "The Majors of Golf ..." nor https://www.theopen.com/Heritage/PreviousOpens#!/1963/Royal-Lytham-&-St-Annes list him. It's possible that he didn't start but given that reserves were available (eg noted here https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=oYNAAAAAIBAJ&sjid=r6MMAAAAIBAJ&pg=2915%2C1767706), he is currently down as a "WD".
