"Yankees had the lowest payroll in MLB from 1943 till 1993" could not possibly be true. That statement not only lacks a citation but also defies credulity. I grew up a Yankees fan, and there is no way that the Yankees had the lowest payroll in MLB when they won two world series in the seventies with high priced free agents Catfish Hunter and Reggie Jackson and the Yankees penchant for hired guns.
