Did Rahman really have a seat? Newer election articles tend to fill in that parameter with any district although the person didn't even participate in the election, e. g. Hussain Muhammad Ershad who was not able to even run in the 2001 election but yet had a seat attached to his name. (I've corrected it recently and replaced the seat with could not contest.) I don't believe that a sitting President would run for a parliamentary seat. It would definitely not make sense for Ershad in 1986 and 1988, as it was clear that he would win the election, so he didn't need a parliamentary seat as compensation for a potential loss. I'm not fully sure with this election here from 1979, as it is described as "credible" and as Rahman was taking the will of parliament into account, which sounds democratic, so maybe Rahman couldn't be sure to win and secured his potential career with a seat. However, I do not really believe that either, as (although founding one of the major parties) he does not seem like someone who would seek the career of a normal politician but rather like someone who did what was necessary to stabilize the country and occasionally slipped into politics. --SamWinchester000 (talk) 22:10, 9 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
