Infobox
edit- Please remove any of the following unused parameters, unless information that is valid and cited can be added:
- "Map"
- "Map alt"
- "Map caption"
- "Places"
- "Duration"
- "Tsunami" (Definitely not needed here.)
- "Landslide" (Definitely not needed here.)
- "Foreshocks"
- "Aftershocks"
Done (Removed all except "places" and "caption", which are functional. I also put a "Yes" for landslides, which is covered in the "Damage" section.))
Lead
editParagraph 1
edit- Please use a wikilink for California to its respective article Done (
Added a link to California)
Paragraph 2
edit- "Due to the regional seismic risk, the nuclear portion of the Humboldt Bay Nuclear Power Plant was shut down in the 1970s." --> Before this earthquake? (
Do you mean "Was the seismic risk discovered before the 1980 event?" Let me know if you think that's unclear and I can look at how to improve it.)
Tectonic setting
edit- "Near Cape Mendocino, the Mendocino Triple Junction is an area of active seismicity where three tectonic plates come together." --> No source
- "The Mendocino Fracture Zone (also known as the Mendocino Fault east of the Gorda Ridge) is a transform fault that separates the Pacific and Gorda Plates." --> No source
- "To the south, the relative motion between the Pacific Plate and North American Plate is accommodated by the San Andreas Fault, and to the north, the Gorda Plate is converging with the North American Plate at the Cascadia Subduction Zone." --> No source Done (
See below
)
Earthquake
editParagraph 1
edit- Great work! Nothing to say here!
Paragraph 2
edit- Same as above! :)
Damage
edit- "While most damage from the event..." --> "While most of the damage from the event..." Done (
See below
) - Please remove "(which is also known as the Gorda Basin earthquake)" Done (
I decided to change this altogether while also incorporating your suggestion. It's important to keep the alternate name (Gorda Basin EQ) and this paragraph is where it's cited. I've change it from "While most damage from the event (which is also known as the Gorda Basin earthquake)..." to "While most of the damage from the Gorda Basin earthquake..."))
- Rest is great! :)
Strong motion
edit- Also good! But please look below!
Other notes
edit- Just curious as to why the references included in this article are only mentioned at the end of each section, rather than within the section itself? I made comments about it in the first article section I read ("Tectonic setting"), but refrained from continuing the trait throughout the entirety of the article. Please explain. Thanks, Carbrera (talk) 23:47, 23 June 2016 (UTC). (
Sorry, I should have mentioned this earlier. I'll have to remember to do that next time. Most of the articles that I work on (including this one) use a "paragraph style" sourcing scheme. In other words, these four sentences are sourced to page 797 and 798 of the BSSA article. The sources that I use for these EQ articles are usually very dense, and I pull as much information as I can from them.))
