Talk:1981 Irish general election

Minor parties

edit

Using the decription independents in this article is incorrect as this category includes candidates who stood for minor political parties among them Noel Browne elected for the Socialist Labour Party in Dublin, Jim Kemmy elected for the Democratic Socialist Party in Limerick and Neil Blaney elected for Independent Fianna Fail in Donegal. Others is a much better description. Furthermore describing anti-H block as a political party is very dubious as it was more a label of convenience used by disparate groups such as the Irish Independence Party, Sinn Fein and Independent Republicans during the Hunger Strike era. Sydney Elliott's book on the 1981 Northern Ireland local elections even lists some SDLP councillors under the anti H block tag. Valenciano 14:25, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
