editHello,
firstly, please check out my User description to know more about me.
Secondly, I have a question to ask about the 1980 Tour (Depeche Mode) and 1981 Tour pages that User:Sztyepan created a few days ago. It's about the title of these tours: In comparison to the names of Depeche Mode's other tours, it now sounds as if these tours were officially named as such, when in fact they were not. I'm not sure if the name "tour" can even be used, since these concerts were not planned well in advance and were more of a series of happenstances, like "Hey do you guys wanna play in my club this weekend?" sort of thing. I think it should be called "Depeche Mode tour in 1980"/"Depeche Mode tour in 1981". For this reason, I wrote "Most concerts during this year were not planned well in advance, but occurred as more and more opportunities for them arose." within the first paragraph.
This is complicated by the fact that in fall 1981, Depeche Mode went on their first "proper" tour, named the "Speak & Spell tour", and were all planned well in advance. Those concerts were listed as such in magazines beforehand. This is very different from the one-off gigs that they had been doing up until then. So I think those dates should be separated for a new page titled as such, but as a newbie, I don't dare to create a new page on Wikipedia without some discussion with expert Wiki-editors first.
Now I'm gonna give an explanation for most of the modifications that I just made on this page. Please note that I also simply removed grammatical errors. 1) If the creator of this page had checked out https://www.depechemode-live.com/wiki/1981-12-03_Chichester_Festival_Theatre,_Chichester,_England,_UK, they would have known that this is not a gig but a TV performance. The reason why it's listed as such is because the owner of that site has a recording of it but does not collect recordings of TV performances as a category, so it's listed there because there's no other category to put it in. I don't think TV shows should be mentioned on this Wiki page, however, because then all TV performances should have to be added, and that would just make things all the more confusing. I've also removed it from the gig list.
2) I've completely removed this paragraph:
In summary, the band had a more clear view about their sounding than during the previous tour, the 1980 Tour, and the concerts were smoother and more enjoyable. Their attendance was growing in parallel with the release of their #11 and #8 (UK charts) singles, New Life and Just Can't Get Enough. But the concerts were still restricted to smaller venues or clubs.
It's devoid of references, which are necessary to make claims like this. Most of the comparatives in this paragraph are not paired up with the things with which they are compared. The second sentence basically says that their popularity at gigs and in the charts were both rising: I think it's really obvious that it did, because they could not have gone downhill much from the previous year, and if they had, then we would probably never have heard of them.
I've also edited the 1980 Tour (Depeche Mode) page for similar reasons, please check out its Talk page.
I hope to hear from anyone who is interested in these two pages. :) Bye!
