The TEXT of this article MUST have....

The TEXT of this article MUST have, right near the top and very clearly, the number of elections to the Senate that were held in 1986. This should be loud and clear, and not have to be "hunted" for.

This number was actually 34.

With the present 50 states, by the Constitution there must be at least 33 elections for the Senate every two years. (This is the minimum.)

However, most of the time, this number is 34, 35, or 36, also depending on how many Senators might have died, resigned from their offices, or been impeached and convicted during the previous two years. When a Senator leaves office these ways, in some states the law says that the Governor can appoint a replacement for the remainder of the term, but in other states, an election must be held for a new Senator sooner than that -- such as at the next election in November. 98.81.3.149 (talk) 11:41, 3 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Some of the code under the "Results summary" section is incorrect and needs to be fixed. --Bigpoliticsfan (talk) 10:53, 15 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
