The bulk of this article seems to concern the ongoing battle for the Chief Minister's office between Follett and Kaine. While this is fine in itself, more information is required about the election campaign and results themselves. Joestella 09:22, 4 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

You're right - half of this article is about the first parliament, not the election itself. I wonder if it's time we started thinking about creating topical articles on individual parliaments. I believe there's a precedent in Canada somewhere, but I'm not sure of it. Rebecca 09:39, 4 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Many election articles note how the government elected at or soon after the election fared over the course of the term. This one has a lot more detail than that, while saying not much about the poll itself - no more, it seems, than the raw figures from the ACT government say. It definitely needs cleanup (more so than our election stubs) because of this lack of focus, so I'm unclear as to why Rebecca objects to the cleanup tag.

The content might best be moved to Chief Minister of the Australian Capital Territory and/or Australian Capital Territory Legislative Assembly. On the other hand, this article could stand to be far more detailed on its core subject-matter - in which case the Chief Minister changes should stay. Joestella 09:59, 4 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've removed much of the information that relates to the battle for Chief Minister and focused on what I know of the election itself. I hope that it's a little clearer. Given that it was the first election for the Assembly, I felt it appropriate to give some background to self-government in the ACT; as well as info on those that sought to 'transfer' from the abolished ACT House of Assembly to the ACT Legislative Assembly. The ABC Stateline transcript of 20 years of self-government puts the first election into some context - although there is detail missing on the length of time that I recall it took to get a clear result. Oh - and BTW, there is some discrepency on when the 1977/1978 advisory referendum (aka plebiscite) took place. Crispin Hull is quite particular about the results and the date here. But it is less clear at this Commonwealth Government website here (p2) and this ACT Government website here - see Histroy (sic). I'd prefer to believe Crispin, but the AEC says 1978 - so we better believe them; given that they conducted the referendum. :-) Jherschel (talk) 07:57, 4 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
