A Brief Evaluation

edit

This article, while it includes valuable information, does not have a lead that properly lines up with its content. The first section does not address the science of the storm: which most of the article is about. Instead, it talks about the effects of the 1997-1998 El Nino event. Additionally, there is no brief overview of the article's sections and the lead section mentions an outbreak of Rift Valley Fever that is not written about anywhere else in the article. In terms of the article's content, it is both relevant and up to date. Unfortunately, the article fails to address underrepresented topics, despite having great potential to do so. What this means is that because this El Nino event affected many people, including those who are underrepresented, this article would be a great place to write abut this.

This article does a good job of staying neutral from start to end, and focuses on a wide range of data on the storm from various places. As mentioned earlier, the only thing that is missing is a balance between this data and the implications of the storm. When claims or data are provided in this article, reliable and current sources are always used. However, it does use information from certain authors or reports multiple times. The organization of this article could be better, as the paragraphs are long and dense with meteorological data. Regardless of the take-backs, the writing quality helps this article with its clarity and lack of errors.

This article does not have any discussions occurring in its talk page, and is a C-class, high-importance topic that is part of the Environment WikiProject. Despite its shortcomings, this article does a good job of describing how the 1997-1998 El Nino event came about and the course it took during its existence. It brings up important topics that deserve more attention but has strong sources to back up the data it presents. This article would be greatly improved if it addressed the concepts brought up in the lead section as well as discussed how underrepresented peoples were affect by this event. Finally, this article is complete in its use and presentation of data and information, but does not elaborate on topics that it initially writes about.
