Fair use rationale for Image:Michigan BlockM.jpg
editImage:Michigan BlockM.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 21:47, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:MichiganWolverines.png
editThe image Image:MichiganWolverines.png is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
- That this article is linked to from the image description page.

GA Review
edit- This review is transcluded from Talk:1997 Michigan Wolverines football team/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the review.
My initial concern is the length of the section on the Rose Bowl. I'd also consider rewording the first sentence in the background section since I don't think people consider a pre-season ranking of 17 to be "low-expectations"
- It is two or three times as long as most other game sections, but it is two or three more times as important since it was the national championship game.--TonyTheTiger (T/[[Special:Contributions/TonyTheTiger|C]/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 19:18, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
- 1998 Rose Bowl has it's own article. I think a drive-by-drive summary isn't needed here. I understand keeping the scoring drives and the end of the game, but the rest can go into the Rose Bowl article per WP:SS. Also this sentence "With no timeouts left, Leaf's spike of the football, but Dick Burleson, the referee from the Southeastern Conference crew, shook his head as Leaf contested the decision" needs to be fixed. Also, you can probably remove the last paragraph of that section because it deals mostly with players from other schools.~DC Let's Vent 19:27, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
- On second thought, considering the length of 2005_Texas_Longhorns_football_team#Rose_Bowl_versus_USC, the length of the section seems fine. It still needs a quick copy-edit though, and I still think the last paragraph of the section should go. ~DC Let's Vent 20:05, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
- If I take out everything but "On the last day that underclassmen could declare for the 1998 NFL Draft in early January, junior Woodson also decided to forgo his collegiate eligibility." then I have a stub paragraph that would need to be expanded. Thus, I expanded it by giving context to Woodson's decision. The context being which other players decided to enter the draft and which did not.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 20:18, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
- Maybe you could mention where he went in the draft? Or if any players left the team early, or coaches went elsewhere? ~DC Let's Vent 20:21, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
- Back then it was a new thing to leave early. Only other name stars from other teams were leaving early, which is why I have added that for comparison. The following year the main coaches were the same (see 1998 Michigan Wolverines football team infobox).--TonyTheTiger (T/[[Special:Contributions/TonyTheTiger|C]/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 20:27, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
- Alright, how about moving it to its own subsection, and maybe mentioning how many seniors left the team. ~DC Let's Vent 03:55, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
- Moved to the NFL draft section.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 04:14, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

- Further comments: This was mentioned in the peer review, but File:1997 Notre Dame at Michigan football ticket stub.jpg needs to be removed since the article doesn't mention anything about the ticket. If you feel it's necessary to illustrate the uniform, why not use File:Big10-Uniform-Mich.PNG? ~DC Let's Vent 18:55, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
- removed. If we add back any image it would be something like http://www.raeky.com/1997_Notre_Dame_at_Michigan_football_ticket_stub_copyright_free.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 19:31, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
- One more thing, in the coaches section, there's no title given for Bobby Morrison. ~DC Let's Vent 20:25, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
- Since it's a minor thing, I fixed it myself. Didn't think I could but WP:GAN allows it. ~DC Let's Vent 03:31, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
So the final result is passed. ~DC Let's Vent 03:31, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
Statistics
editWhy does this article include an exhaustive table of statistics when the other featured football articles do not? see 2005 Texas Longhorns football team and 2007 USC Trojans football team. I used to add stats to the Penn State articles but at some point I had my fingers cracked and was told that a stats table is a "no-no" on wikipedia. Dincher (talk) 00:00, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

- People who want to know about Michigan football or any other sports teams expect stats. Almost any basic GA review for a sports team requests that stats be added. I don't know how much stats is too much, but these stats seem to be basic stats of interest to a reader about a sports team and worthy of being WP:PRESERVEd.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 00:23, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
Possibly false claim?
editIn section 'Pre-season': "The 1997 Michigan team was the first since the 1969 team to have no Rose Bowl veterans."
This claim is sourced from the Chicago Tribune's 1997 preseason preview (the claim is not found in the second listed source from the New York Times). Obviously the Tribune is generally a trusted source, but this claim seems dubious. Michigan had a 4-year Rose Bowl drought from 1972 to 1975, the same length as the Rose Bowl drought heading into 1997. So unless there was some sort of special case with a player's eligibility, a freshman on the 1971 Rose Bowl squad could not have played for the 1976 squad. This would mean that the 1976 team also had no Rose Bowl veterans.
