The current version states the 1997 Labour (simple) Majority as 179, however if you follow the Institute for Government explainer/guidelines the Speaker is added to the “Opposition” side of the calculation ………This gives 418 (Government members) less 241 (Opposition members plus the Speaker) = 177.
