Confirmed tornadoes

Can't seem to come up with the six short lived tornadoes that touched down before the three long-lived tornadoes. Anyone know of any good sources where this information is confirmed? --RyguyMN 03:20, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

You may want to check out the NCDC archived list, they could have the information there. The long-tracked tornadoes that take up a lot of space in the box could also be moved into separate sections below the list. CrazyC83 19:46, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

We know that there were 14 tornadoes in this outbreak, and that there was only one F4 and one F3. So #'s 8, 9, 11,12 & 15 look to be duplicate entries for the same tornado. Also, based on the NWS graphic on the page, it appears that #1 & #4 are the same one (since there was only one F2 in that region of the state). So if you get rid of those 6 lines ([1 or 4], 8, 9, 11, 12, 15) I think you have what you're looking for. Ok, based on the write-up above, the #1 tornado was in fact the first tornado touchdown. It looks like we should go with #1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 10, 13, 14, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20. I've bolded them also. Does everyone else agree? If so, the tornado listing should be updated to reflect this. RyguyMN 18:17, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

After further research, I think that this list is correct, and not the one we'd come up with before. I'll go ahead and make the changes, and I'm also going to include 2 Wisconsin tornadoes in here as well. Gopher backer (talk) 04:44, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Fatalities

There is mention that there was one fatality in St. Peter. Are these articles supposed to name the victims? Gopher backer 22:58, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

St. Peter, Minnesota says that the tornado that hit St. Peter killed one person. Gustavus Adolphus College says it killed two, and one of them was near the college. 1998 Comfrey - St. Peter tornado outbreak says two people were killed by two tornadoes: one in Hanska (but he didn't die until the next day) and one in St. Peter (but it mentions him twice). All of these are true, but confusing, especially when taken together. I'd like to change the Gustavus count to 1, and revise this article for clarity. Eostrom 02:52, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Nice article. One question about the twenty people who reached safety in a church in Comfrey. Did the people escape injury when the church was destroyed? —SusanLesch (talk) 18:13, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Image sources

NOAA acknowledges persons other than NOAA employees for providing the images of destroyed houses, cars, etc. I do not believe that they are, in fact, products of NOAA. I don't know what their copyright situation is, but it is preventing me from giving this article a proper GA review. What are your thoughts? Plasticup ^T/C 18:45, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

All of the images should be okay.... There is a disclaimer on the NOAA sites that says anything on their page is considered in the public domain, unless stated otherwise. This is also explained a little more on this page. I've also run this by a couple admins in the past, I can try to dig those discussions up if you'd like as well. Tornado Length Statistics

The section on Historical Perspective seems to have a confusing mention of how this tornado was the longest continuously-on-the-ground tornado in Minnesota history, but suggests that other tornadoes had longer paths but were not on the ground continuously. By definition, a tornado must be in contact with the ground, so this needs some clarification to be consistent with the pages on other tornadoes and on tornadoes in general.
