The first paragraph is rather bland. Other season GA's find some better way of engaging the reader into the article. The first sentence, in particular, makes me want to click on the X button and read the 9 millionth story on Earl. So, for starters, work on that.

  • "The season activity began just a week after the official beginning, with Tropical Depression One forming on June 7, 2000; although the first named storm, Hurricane Alberto, was not named until August 4." - two problems. The whole "official beginning" is confusing if left unclarified, and the second portion after the semicolon isn't a complete sentence.
  • The bit on the season ending early likewise is confusing. Why should the unnamed subtropical storm get snubbed like that?

If I were writing the article, I'd give a brief seasonal summary. "The first tropical cyclone of the year, a tropical depression, formed a week after the beginning of the season. No tropical storms developed in June or July, the first time since 1992." I threw you a bone right there. You have to find things that are interesting about each season. Otherwise, no one, and I mean no one will ever want to read them. You can cite what I said via HURDAT. Continuing.... "Hurricane Alberto, the longest-lasting storm of the season, attained hurricane status three times and executed the largest loop of any Atlantic hurricane. In September, there were 7 named storms, at the time a record for most storms in September." I could keep going, but in short, it could use a season summary section. Then, in the lede, you can go into detail on the individual storms.

  • How do you know the season was less destructive than average? Do you have a source for that?
  • The article is overall poorly written. Just a quick, stupid example.
    • "The precursor disturbance to Tropical Storm Leslie produced severe flooding in south Florida, causing $950 million (2000 USD, $1.2 billion 2010 USD)." causing $950 million? Sweet, I'd love that sort of money... but I'm sure it did something with that money.
  • There should be more info on the individual storms, particularly for the depressions without articles. TD1 is greatly lacking - find out what the rainfall did, and get some more met. history.
  • There is no reason that TD 4 has a longer section than Leslie.
  • Don't use nautical miles.

In short, the article just isn't "good", and it doesn't really follow the standards set by other "good" tropical cyclone season articles.

Sorry, I have no choice but to fail the article. Good luck working on the article in the future, though. --Hurricanehink (talk) 04:02, 1 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
