Talk:2007 Boston Red Sox season

Play by Play

edit

Generally, play by play recaps of games aren't done on Wikipedia, but I wouldn't mind doing boxscores, or at the very least, putting them on Wikinews and then linking it to the game recap log. Just H 20:11, 5 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Pushing the limits of Wikipedia

edit

I love the Sox too, but this article is trying to do too much, especially by Wikipedia standards. Forget the stats tables, the schedule... Provide links to ESPN or CNN/SI for that content. It should not be kept on this page.

Cursory recaps of each series, perhaps, might be reasonable enough. Key transactions, injuries, stuff like that... I agree it would be nice to have one article separate from the main Sox page that recaps this season. But right now, there's too much content to manage here. Eh, IMHO. I totally agree you with on this one, Doc. Yanksox 13:39, 17 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Schilling's No-Hitter

edit

Who put that in there about Lugo? National limelight?? Sounds more like a disgruntled fan upset with Lugo. Anyone who plays/watches baseball knows that what he did in the 5th inning has NO effect on the pitcher giving up a hit in the 9th. That just sounds ridiculous. Have you ever played baseball before? He had to go into the 9th inning, regardless of who was batting, and put them down 123. He didn't do it. That's no one's fault but his. You can't put the blame on something that happened 4 innings earlier, on him giving up a hit then.

It was a great performance by Schilling none the less, and I'm not trying to take anything away from him. But losing the no-hitter is squarely on him. You CAN blame Lugo for blowing the perfect game... but not the no-hitter. Abalu 08:49, 8 June 2007 (UTC)AbaluReply

I'm not sure that the material belongs there, at least in that form, but it is correct. Stewart was the 28th batter of the game. If Lugo had made his play in the fifth, Schilling would have retired the first 27 batters and never faced Stewart. I believe the text is sufficiently clear in that regard. Riots?

edit

I'm in Boston right now (I can see Fenway from my window) and people here are totally batshit insane. In the last few hours, I have seen people setting off fireworks, burning Yankees and Cleveland hats (and other unidentifiable items) and police in full riot gear releasing attack dogs. Perhaps there should be a note of this in the article? Also, there was an independent riot by Boston University students on their own territory, perhaps I can link to tomorrow's edition of The Daily Free Press, which will include an article on the matter.
