Why has this been split from 2007 Men's World Ice Hockey Championships? It has never been done in the past. Lord Tau 07:53, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

• Looks like there will be main articles for each division of the Championships (ie: main division, I, II, and III). It's a pretty good idea, because it will stray away from the typical ultra-long articles from previous years, and be able to provide more detail for the other championships. - Nurmsook 18:02, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

As you can see, they save much more space than the current design. Similar to the templates used in the 2007 Stanley Cup Playoffs, the completed games show the date, score (with bolded team the winner), and the arena used, with the game summary as a pop-up. The future games also state the date and arena, and show the time of the future game in place of the score. I have removed the period summary from the completed game template as it appears to be redundant with the times of the goals also being displayed. This template is currently in use in both the 2006 and 2007 IIHF World U18 Championships articles. Any support for this template? - Nurmsook 00:30, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

Overtime

This is the first world championship with the "overtime system" already in the group stage - the team can get 0,1,2 or 3 points for every match. [1] Maybe I have overlooked it and it is written in some other article -- but in my opinion this is worth mentioning. Standings

Someone has made the top 4 positions in each of the Qualifying Round standings green. It strikes me that a team's position should only been made green when they have clinched advancing to the Quarterfinals. Thoughts? 35.10.246.164 20:55, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

i don't understand the stats in those qualifying round tables.. which games are they counting? is it cumulative from the last group stage or not? either way the numbers don't work out.. 131.111.24.187 17:08, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

As the note at the bottom says, results of games from the Preliminary Round against teams that qualified for the Qualifying Round carry over; games against teams in the Relegation Round do not. In this way, the Qualifying Round standings will end up being a round-robin of all the teams in each Group, while saving the time it would take to have teams that have already played each other play again. The long and short of it is that games that involved Latvia, Austria, Norway, or Ukraine no longer count in the Qualifying Round standings, but all other contests are included. 76.10.24.245 19:28, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

But the teams in green haven't yet clinched their spots yet, have they? for example, if canada loses their next two games, and belarus lose their next two, and the other games could be divided so that all five teams end up with 9 points each; and if canada lose by enough they could still get knocked out.. i know, unlikely (since canada will probably win!), but nevertheless possible? Currently Switzerland is green, for having tie-breakers over Denmark and Italy or something like that. Thing is, if they lose to Finland, and Finland loses to Italy, (and Germany loses to Italy) there'll be three teams at 6 points, with Finland>Switzerland>Italy>Finland, meaning other things than points between the teams will decide who qualifies. It looks like you might be right, that I was wrong to put Switzerland in green before the Italy/Finland game, although that contradicts the write-up of the Switzerland win that prompted me to put them in green: http://live82.ihwc.net/english/article/recaps/index.ihwc?artId=2609. Final standings

Games Played

Now that all aspects of pool play are over, I suggest deleting the Games Played column. Every time I look at the standings, I have to mentally remind myself that the first column isn't wins (which is what I would otherwise expect), but games played. As I see it, Games Played is useful when the teams will have a different number of games played, but now that pool play is over and it's the same for everyone, it contributes very little to the table other than clutter. 76.10.24.245 18:48, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
