dates?

edit

Anyone know the exact dates or match schedule?

Is there an official website? 210.55.130.65 23:01, 8 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

fixtures

edit

is there any links for the fixtures of the super 8? Cause I would think that the A1 and A2 would be done the same way it was done now. Is that not the case?--Thugchildz 16:25, 1 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fixture list is here: [1] Should probably be cited as a source. Sam Vimes | Address me 16:30, 1 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Although it doesn't say how the super 8 seeds will be handled. Is like the cwc where it didn't matter where teams ended up in the top 2 or is it going to be different?--Thugchildz 16:44, 1 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

As far as I know, the draw was a random one, and there are no seeds. Andrew nixon 16:46, 1 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Name

edit

I just saw a television ad (Australia) promoting this and referred to as the "Twenty20 Cricket World Cup". Have created a redirect anyway. —Moondyne 14:20, 1 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, I have no idea what the official name is. Cricinfo are calling it the "ICC World Twenty20", the ICC are saying "ICC Twenty20 World Championships 2007", CricketArchive's is close to ours though but has "ICC Twenty20 World Championship 2007/08"... Although I suppose it is in the 07/08 season (why is it on International cricket in 2007 and not 2007-08, anyway?). Does it actually have an official site short of the limited space it's got on CSA's (broken) website? AllynJ (talk | contribs) 22:06, 1 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
[2]. Perhaps wisely, the running of the website has been outsourced.
I note that the word "Championship" or, indeed, "Cup" does not appear anywhere on the site. So I'd think ICC World Twenty20, is, at least, the most official name. And with Cricinfo and BBC also using it, I think it fits the most common name, too. Sam Vimes | Address me 07:55, 10 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Rather confusingly, Jonathan Agnew on TMS has said that this tournament is to be known as the World Twenty20 as it is not a world cup, but the 2009 tournament WILL be the Twenty20 World Cup; perhaps so that both CWCs aren't in the same year? I don't really know, but that's what he said. Tony2Times 12:09, 14 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yes, J. Agnew was very emphatic that it is NOT a world cup. The first official "Twenty20 World Cup" will be held in England. The present tournament in South Africa is called the "ICC World Twenty20" (see official website here[3]). So this article does seem misnamed and probably misleading? 88888 18:36, 14 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yeah I think it should be renamed World Twenty20 or ICC World Twenty20; the logo was probably the obvious clue. Obviously redirection pages should be made.Tony2Times 03:00, 15 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Where does it say that the one in England will be '1st World Cup'??? *This* is the 1st world T20!! The one in England will be 2nd! 59.182.77.92 18:44, 24 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Can someone confirm if this is officially the first world cup? And if it is, then why is it not called the Twenty20 World Cup? Will the one in 2009 be called Twenty20 World Cup or it will still be ICC World Twenty20 2009?--167.131.0.194 15:52, 27 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Twenty20 World Championship 2007 Logo.jpg

edit

Image:Twenty20 World Championship 2007 Logo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Apostrophes

edit

Who keeps putting Super 8's, the Super 8 teams don't own anything, there is no need for a bloody apostrophe. Christ, it's not that hard. I'm gonna remove all the ones I can find, but I may miss a few.Tony2Times 03:04, 15 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Err I think you are wrong here. When they say "Team qualified for Super 8's", they mean a team qualified for matches of the Super 8 ( they qualified for the Super 8's matches).--58.108.250.45 04:01, 15 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
What he is saying is that Super 8's should not have an apostrophe, it should be Super 8s. Andrew nixon 10:30, 15 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Does anyone else have the flags not appearing for these templates? I can't find the problem.--58.108.250.45 03:54, 15 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Small (scaled-down) flags seem to be problematic all over the site today and yesterday. Some re-appear, and some disappear.glennb28 tc 17:09, 15 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
It is a known problem and they are trying to fix it. Look here [[4]].137.154.16.31 06:09, 17 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Media coverage

edit

The media coverage section - does anyone agree with me that it should be removed? It's not really encyclopedic in any way, and just because other pages have it doesn't mean it should be on here -- or them, for that matter. Wikipedia isn't a directory, and I don't see any reason to keep it. I'd rather create a consensus between us all, the best way to go about it I'd have thought. Thoughts? Cheers. AllynJ (talk | contribs) 00:15, 16 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Saying which network the cricket is on doesn't constitute an electronic program guide, for that you need dates and times. So the section is fine. Operating 01:33, 16 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Consensus style of writing - All out

edit

When a team is bowled out, i.e., 10 wickets, should we have "all out" after the score as in the article (200 all out), or just the score as in most other cricket articles (200)?

My view is the second option, just 200, glennb28 tc 18:22, 18 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

On the 2007 Cricket World Cup article we always used All Out. I believe there was consensus over this, don't think both articles should be different.--Dacium 05:39, 19 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Should be all out.Operating 09:37, 19 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

NPOV

edit

There seems to be a lot of WP:NPOV in this article. For example phrases like "Sanath Jayasuriya in impressive form." Who says he was in impressive form? impressive compared to what? I'm not doubting he was, but either that needs to be quoted (if notable), or rephrased. John Hayestalk 15:35, 24 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

A TV representative interviewing him commented after another stunning innings that he seemed to be getting better with age. Loom91 15:50, 24 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
I'm not just refering to that example, there is a lot of it. Even so that should then be re-written as "Sanath Jayasuriya has been regarded to be in impressive form." with cited examples. John Hayestalk 16:34, 24 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Other examples: "The five officials responsible for the chaotic end to the final", "Group B started with a major shock", "Group C was unarguably the least exciting of the four opening groups". John Hayestalk 16:40, 24 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
I haven't noticed an edit war so i dont think the POV template is worthwhile, especially since active editing of the article will stop in a day or two when little discussion will be possible. You should simply delete or alter the sentences that you mention. Operating 16:58, 24 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Well I wanted to make other people aware of the issue, when I have some time I will try and clean it up, but maybe there are others who will help. John Hayestalk 19:59, 24 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
I've deleted or altered the pov's you pointed out. Operating 20:34, 24 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

What?

edit

Joginder Sharma bowled a wide first ball, followed by a dot ball. Any way that this article can be written so those who read "In the News" but aren't cricketing aficionados have a faint chance of understanding? It looks needlessly obscure at the moment. I'm sure you can either explain or link dot ball, full-toss etc. You might make some converts if at least links were provided. Andplus 10:25, 28 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

You've got a point there. --Idleguy 11:09, 28 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
