Talk:2008 Nevada Democratic presidential caucuses

Opening heading

edit

How about something discussing the lawsuit concerning that at-large precincts on the strip. I would like to see information about how the number of delegates for each precinct are calculated, since most MSM articles just say "a complicated formula is used" - I'd like to see the formula and an explanation of it.

I added a quick blurb on the casino situation. Joshdboz (talk) 19:36, 17 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Pics?

edit

I would suggest removing the pics of the candidates, considering no other state 2008 primary/caucus article have a list of pics, and they really just take up space. Joshdboz (talk) 20:02, 17 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Adding results

edit

I'm sure all of us political junkies are following the events of the day, but it seems a little premature (potentially biased to favor one candidate?) if we're adding any numbers when 3% of the results are in and the margin is so close. Thompsontough (talk) 20:38, 19 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

What do the numbers mean?

edit

Question about numbers: What exactly do the numbers in the Republican/Democrat Caucuses reflect (e.g. Romney 17582 with 32%, etc.)? Are these weighted in some capacity? I can't imagine Romney, with 32% of the vote in having more caucus votes than the entire Democratic field combined with 80% of the votes in? Forgive my ignorance. 74.138.220.149 (talk) 21:41, 19 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Those are caucus delegates. IIRC, they are elected by popular vote, and then attend the caucuses and elect national delegates to the national convention. 65.31.80.94 (talk) 22:31, 19 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Like in Iowa, the Nevada caucus counts are given in state delegate equivalents, which will undercount the vote of the lesser candidates (i.e. Edwards, Kucinich), because they don't meet the threshold in many precincts. The Republicans conduct a straw poll and delegates are all uncommitted, but allocated proportionally for media purposes. Thus, the Republicans report real persons. Results

edit

Who won? Currently, it is listed as Barack Obama, but the actual number will not be out until April. Shouldn't we put Clinton out first because she did win the popular vote and Obama's delegate count is only an assumption, not fact. Yialanliu (talk) 14:04, 20 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

On the other hand, the media assumption is more accurate for the Democrats, because all delegates sign a statement of support for their candidate (although they are legally unbound). Since the media is reporting it this way, I am going to stick with this. Calwatch (talk) 19:24, 20 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
According to this no delegates were awarded. -- Kendrick7talk 22:39, 20 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Total Votes

edit

How many total votes were there? I can't access this information anywhere. It's interesting to compare to how many voters came out during the Republican Primary. Does anyone have access to this information and why isn't it in the article? Popular vote is pretty important. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.210.196.138 (talk) 21:28, 22 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
