GA Review

edit

Hi! I'll be doing the GA review for this article, and I should have the full review up within a couple of hours. Dana boomer (talk) 00:10, 19 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

GA review (see here for criteria)
  1. It is reasonably well written.
    a (prose):   b (MoS):
    • External links go after references, not before.
    • Non-breaking spaces (-&nbsp) should be used between numbers and units.
    • For an article this length, there really should be two paragraphs in the lead. My suggestion would be to split it into two paragraphs and add a two or three sentences summarizing your "Background" and "Aftermath" sections.
    • In the "Fairbanks" section, you say "Several residents of the Rosie Creek neighborhood". Why only several of the residents? Is there a reason to not just say "Residents of the Rosie Creek..."?
    • In the "Nenana" section, you say "Native leaders encouraged residents". Why specify native? Would it be possible to reword as "City leaders..."?
    • In the "Aftermath" section, you say "On August 4, Alaska governor Sarah Palin visited Fairbanks to officially sign the disaster declaration and to visit the flooded area." You have her visiting things twice in the same sentence. Can one of the visits be replaced by another word?
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (references):   b (citations to reliable sources):   c (OR):
    • Current ref 14 (Bohman) needs publisher information
    • There are two spots that need refs:
      • The very last half sentence in the "Background" section
      • The last sentence in the first paragraph of the "Aftermath" section
  3. It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects):   b (focused):
  4. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
  5. It is stable.
    No edit wars etc.:
  6. It is illustrated by images, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free images have fair use rationales):   b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
    • The first two images (graphs) need captions
    • The images in the Salcha and Nenana sections should be moved down slightly so that they don't seperate the headers from the text.
    • Try to make your image captions more concise, and you don't need to mention the flood by name in them. For example, instead of "A Fairbanks shooting range is closed due to flooding during the 2008 Tanana Valley flood.", just say "A Fairbanks shooting range closed due to the flood". The article is about the 2008 Tanana Valley flood, therefore, implicitly, all of the photos should be of the flood. If they're not, we've got bigger problems than captions *grin*
  7. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:

All of the things I've mentioned above are fairly minor, and should be easy to correct. I am putting this article on hold for seven days in order to allow you time to work on the final tweaks necessary to the article. If you have questions, you can ask them here on the review page (I have it watchlisted) or on my talk page. Dana boomer (talk) 00:46, 19 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Everything looks good, so I'm passing the article! Dana boomer (talk) 12:23, 20 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
