Gomez trade
editTSN reports the Rangers acquired Doug Janik with this trade, yet the Rangers' own web site makes no mention of him in either the story or their rosters. --David7581 (talk) 23:45, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
- No need to worry, Janik was also part of the package. See also Montreal Canadiens and The Hockey News. --Soccer-holicI hear voices in my head... 07:26, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
Inclusion of sources/references; possible layout change
editI know, we had a different consensus up to now, but wouldn't it be better to include one or two sources for every trade? The question above would probably not have been asked, then. (On the other hand, the detail given on transfers by NHL clubs teams varies from team to team, with the Rangers and Maple Leafs (!) being the worst sources of such things.)
There are two basic ways of adding single-trade references in here. The first way is that the link is added via the reference-tags and Template:Cite news to the date of the transaction, as done in Fußball-Bundesliga 2009–10#Managerial changes or Premier League 2009–10#Managerial changes, just to name a few examples, or as seen below:
June 30, 2009[1] | To Montreal Canadiens Scott Gomez Tom Pyatt Michael Busto |
To New York Rangers Chris Higgins Doug Janik Ryan McDonagh Pavel Valentenko |
The complete list of references would then be displayed in a section at the bottom:
- ^ "Habs acquire Scott Gomez". Montreal Canadiens official website. 30 June 2009. Retrieved 30 June 2009.
The other way would be to modify the existing table in a way like this:
Date | Team 1 receives | Team 2 receives | Source(s), Notes |
---|---|---|---|
June 30, 2009 | To Montreal Canadiens Scott Gomez Tom Pyatt Michael Busto |
To New York Rangers Chris Higgins Doug Janik Ryan McDonagh Pavel Valentenko |
Montreal Canadiens official website |
If single references are to be added, I would prefer the first method, simply because it's the encyclopedical standard. But determining the layout is the second step anyway, let's discuss if such a change is wanted at all first. --Soccer-holicI hear voices in my head... 08:07, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
- The second way I think just adds clutter to the article. If you want to add sources, I think the best way to do that is to just add a couple reference sites that have a list of signings/transactions such as the one that Sportsnet has. Thricecube (talk) 23:10, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
European Acquisitions
editIs there any future plans fot the list to include free agents signed to NHL teams from European or minor leagues?
ie.:
- Ilkka Pikkarainen to the New Jersey Devils from HIFK, July 2
- Matt Nickerson to Edmonton Oilers from Ilves Tampere, July 4
- Joel Kwiatkowski to Atlanta Thrashers from Cherepovets Severstal, July 6
- Jonas Gustavsson to Toronto Maple Leafs from Färjestads BK, July 7
- Matt Pope to Vancouver Canucks from Manitoba Moose, July 2 —Preceding [[Wikipedia:Signatures|72.39.32.81 (talk) 19:34, 8 July 2009 (UTC)]] comment added by 72.39.32.81 (talk) 19:31, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
- No, this list includes only signings within the NHL. Any signings involving European clubs should not be listed. --Soccer-holicI hear voices in my head... 20:21, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
- Was Nickerson just coming off of a contract with the Dallas Stars? I noticed he was drafted by them and played for their farm team before going across the pond. ccwaters (talk) 01:37, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
Merger proposal
editPlease merge 2009–2010 NHL Transactions into 2009–10 NHL transactions as this is another article about the same thing. Thanks. --Ilion2 (talk) 12:29, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
- I replaced the content of the article with a redirect to this site. --Soccer-holicI hear voices in my head... 12:40, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
- Why redirect? Nothing links to it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:WhatLinksHere/2009%E2%80%932010_NHL_Transactions ccwaters (talk) 12:44, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
- It was a pro forma move. If you want to kill the redirect, go ahead. --Soccer-holicI hear voices in my head... 13:32, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

Free agent re-signings
editWe should include players who have become free agents and then chose to re-sign with their same team. This would provide useful information about free agent signings that is currently omitted from the lists. A player should not be included if he re-signs before becoming a free agent, but if he re-signs after becoming a free agent he should be included in the list.
