Club and Player Names
editThe club names for the Algerian team are written wrong. JS Kabylie is referred to as Kabylie (the club has never been referred to like that), OMR El Annasser as El Annasser and French clubs listed as city names (Marseille, Montpellier and Nancy as opposed to Olympique Marseille, Montpellier HSC and AS Nancy). I made the change but the but the author decided to revert the article back to include the original names.
As for the player names, the FIFA website (which is used as the main source for this article) has some mistakes in player names. Other sources (such as official club and league pages) are a better source in my opinion. Again, the change was made to reflect this, but the author reverted the article back.TonyStarks (talk) 22:26, 19 October 2009 (UTC)
- Hello, I am the one who reverted the changes you made because they were not the ones as displayed by FIFA. I'll be the first to tell you that I am no expert on Algerian football however having seen the way the full names of the club look I find it similar to a club like say Liverpool F.C. and having it displayed as simply Liverpool or as you said Montpellier HSC as Montpellier because this how they are referred to. I seriously doubt that every time an Algerian fan refers to his team he will say OMR El Annasser and not just El Annasser. If you think I am wrong, please explain. - Clubs in Algeria are usually referred to by their three or four letter acronym in every day conversation. For example, JS Kabylie is referred to as JSK in conversations, or as JS Kabylie in the press. To prove my point, check this out, its search results from Google News in French: Google News. Not only that, 'Kabylie' refers to a region of over 200kms and it has a number of clubs (JS Kabylie, JSM Bejaia, MO Bejaia, JS Bordj Menaiel, not to mention the lower division clubs). For the French clubs, I suppose you can keep them the same since the names are accepted like that in France. The player names as well, the FIFA website is as good source as there is.TonyStarks (talk) 19:54, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
