What's with this?

JMA says: MXWD 035KT... Yet it is still 2 by the JTWC? The JMA gives no name, when do they? Syntheticalconnections (talk) 23:12, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

Your looking at the predicted forecast for 24 hours, the JMA assigns a name when winds = 35kts which they "havent" done yet according to them.Jason Rees (talk) 01:17, 24 March 2010 (UTC)
Oh! Ok. I didn't see that. Syntheticalconnections (talk) 02:28, 24 March 2010 (UTC)

So Few Storms?

It's already June. How come there are so few storms? This article may need to be updated.--HyperSonic X (talk) 04:41, 5 June 2010 (UTC)

Omais is the only cyclone besides 01W (not named by JMA) so far this year. - グリフオーザー (talk) 06:14, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
The article doesnt need to be updated and as a pure guess the lack of activity may have something to do with the Strong el nino we have just had.Jason Rees (talk) 18:46, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
I think this incredible inactivity in June, as well as no storms in April or May, is a record for inactivity in this basin, or a close to 1st place record. Is there anything we should mention in the main article about this inactivity, like a record-low ACE?98.206.70.2 (talk) 13:38, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
We are nowhere near breaking any records as we have already had 1 named storm this season and back in 1998 we didn't have a NS until July 7.Jason Rees (talk) 14:23, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
Either way, this inactivity has come in only a few seasons, and I believe it should be mentioned.98.206.70.2 (talk) 20:23, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

JMA and Tropical Depressions...

Where do you get the information on Tropical Depressions from the JMA? JMA's front page on cyclones are only of Tropical Storms. Syntheticalconnections (talk)(my contribs) 03:47, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

Depressions appear under WWJP25 RJTD, as linked in the "locations of advisories" section. -- RattleMan 08:31, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

Confusing contents

As of 06:47, 14 July 2010 (UTC) the article makes some confusing statements:

  • Concerning the April tropical depression the location of the landfall is somewhat wrong. over Davao City and Surigao del Sur boundary compares to over Tampa Bay and South Carolina border.
  • Concerning the June depression, the text states that the system had intensified into a tropical depression whilst located about 600 km (370 miles) to the northeast of Manila, Philippines but does not mention that the system actually crossed Luzon or passed nearby so I rather guess that it should read northwest of Manila (otherwise the system would have moved very fast as well). There some artefact in the source text which is commented out as well.
  • Concerning Conson the text's statements on the intensifying of the system intensified into a tropical depression on July 11 at 600 UTC while [o]n the afternoon of the next day (that would be July 12) the depression intensified into a tropical storm and was named while again At noon on July 12 (when the JTWC stated it intesivied into a cat 1 typhoon) the JMA also upgraded Conson as a severe tropical storm. I think there's as usual a mess-up of UTC and local times since noon is used to be in advance of the afternoon or insted of [o]n the afternoon of the next day it should read [o]n the afternoon of the same day. Further, the sentence On the same time, the low pressure crossed Palawan Island on the afternoon of April 29. is confusing as well, since the same time refers to next couple of days in the sentence before.

Please try to check these problems. Thanks. --Matthiasb (talk) 06:47, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

Ill try and address some of these comments in the next few days after ive sorted out Conson with an article.Jason Rees (talk) 01:36, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

Another Confusing Storm

Another confusing Low Pressure Area is said to be seen at 940 km East of Luzon (16.5°N 132.5°E).Anirudh Emani (talk) 10:05, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

The Low Pressure Area is now seen at 590 km East of Northern Luzon (18.5°N 128.5°E). Anirudh Emani (talk) 09:28, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
We are watching it and as soon as it develops into a TD it will be put in.Jason Rees (talk) 14:17, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
Thank You. Anirudh Emani (talk) 13:49, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
A track for this storm is needed. any help would be appreciated. Anirudh Emani (talk) 09:48, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
I believe this is about TD Ester (designated as TS by PAGASA). When did JMA name the TD "Dianmu"? As of 09UTC, the JMA site has it as a TD. --123.215.170.182 (talk) 10:06, 8 August 2010 (UTC) (Pilover819)
I dont know, i will bring it back to ester now, but someone else started it. Anirudh Emani (talk) 11:34, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
Im sure a track will be uploaded soon.Jason Rees (talk) 15:52, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
Thank You.Anirudh Emani (talk) 14:06, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Speed issues

i am adding the exact speed caluculation as informed on the JMA website (it is a temporary link, so check it before it is deleted.Anirudh Emani (talk) 14:15, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

No you are not adding the proper windspeeds. You keep wrongly adding what you have wrongly converted from M/s to kts instead of using what JMA says is the knots.Jason Rees (talk) 12:44, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

Landfall

The storm is likely to make landfall in China as shown on the JMA website.Anirudh Emani (talk) 14:08, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

No its not. According to the JMA the landfall location is the Korean Islands before skirting the coast of Russia on its way to Japan.Jason Rees (talk) 14:18, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
Yeah yeah i messed up, why do you conflict for that. you're so violent.Anirudh Emani (talk) 15:41, 10 August 2010 (UTC)

Separate Article

Do you think that Tropical Storm Dianmu deserves a separate article?? Anirudh Emani (talk) 13:30, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

Yeah its worth it - ill see what i can do during the next few days.Jason Rees (talk) 17:19, 14 August 2010 (UTC)
thanks, i will be ready to help at anytime. Anirudh Emani (talk) 08:48, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

Tropical Storm Mindulle

A Shallow Low Pressure Area was Spotted at almost 270 km Northeast of Northern Samar (13.0°N 128.0°E).Anirudh Emani (talk) 08:47, 18 August 2010 (UTC)

there was an invest in that area earlier today from the JTWC. It did not last long as an invest though. - グリフオーザー (talk) 16:02, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

The Shallow Low Pressure Area is now at 60 km Northwest of Catarman, Northern Samar (12.8°N 124.2°E).Anirudh Emani (talk) 08:47, 18 August 2010 (UTC) The Low Pressure Area is now at 290 km Northwest of Puerto Princesa City (11.5°N 116.5°E).Anirudh Emani (talk) 08:47, 18 August 2010 (UTC)

On the Main Page

The Low Pressure Area Seems to last longer than an ordinary one. do you think we should start a section on the Main Page.Anirudh Emani (talk) 08:49, 18 August 2010 (UTC)

No its not a tropical or subtropical depression by any agency yet.Jason Rees (talk) 12:57, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
but dont you think we should keep it if it lasts too long. it would be a rare thing right.Anirudh Emani (talk) 13:17, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
No it wouldnt be a rare thing.Jason Rees (talk) 13:54, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
40% chance of cyclone formation from typhoon 2000 website (18AUG). Still the low has to be named Florita to be in the main page. - グリフオーザー (talk) 22:40, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
Fine but the storm is affecting the whole country of Philippines.Anirudh Emani (talk) 09:32, 19 August 2010 (UTC)
A low pressure area isn't a storm (see Beaufort scale for determining what is a storm). And it isn't tropical. It's at this moment just bad weather. --Matthiasb (talk) 09:52, 19 August 2010 (UTC)
The biggest problem is that the LPA is not yet a tropical cyclone; its only a tropical disturbance. (While the South-West Indian Ocean and South Pacific cyclone season pages have tropical disturbances, that is because on the tropical cyclone scales in that region; they are the weakest form of tropical cyclone. The West Pacific does not use that scale and therefore the LPA is not a tropical cyclone yet). --Iuneof theEast 12:12, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

Well well, thank you.Anirudh Emani (talk) 12:53, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

JTWC Re-Alert

the JTWC has re-reported the cyclone formation alert.Anirudh Emani (talk) 05:49, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

97W/99W, I'm confused

Typhoon 2000 website has these invest as two separate identities. -- グリフオーザー (talk) 00:48, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Sorry I made a mistake earlier. The JTWC said "THIS AREA (99W) WAS INITIALLY CLASSIFIED AS 97W, AND THEN RELOCATED

FURTHER WEST. 99W HAS BEEN OPENED TO TRACK THE INITIAL FEATURE." which i took to mean that they were one system. however judging by sat imagery it appears that its two systems.Jason Rees (talk) 01:03, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

which one is FLORITA?Anirudh Emani (talk) 09:45, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
91W/07W -- グリフオーザー (talk) 11:00, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

TD confusion

There is no info about the last TD. when did CPHC report a depression. the CPHC says there are no storms. Anirudh Emani (talk) 14:20, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

It was monitored as an area of low pressure with a 20% change of formation before it crossed. — Iune(talk) 16:24, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
Look on the WWJP25s from yesterday - it was designated a TD at 18z at 179W Also its noted in the section itself - "west and moved into the western pacific where the JMA immediately designated it as a tropical depression."Jason Rees (talk) 17:57, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

Typhoon Chanthu (Caloy)

The section on this typhoon lacks almost everything of its life after moving out of the PAGASA area of responsibility. Actually that it did intensify to a tropical storm and even into a typhoon thereafter does not exist in our prose on this storm. --Matthiasb (talk) 17:03, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

Fanapi?

Why doesn't Typhoon Fanapi's have the (2010) next to it? I don't think it will be retired, and it violates WP:CRYSTAL and WP:NOR to remove the (2010) before it (may be) retired, so what's the big deal about this? Let alone, the article itself needs to be expanded a lot, it looks like an epic stub the way it is... Is there anyone else supporting this? Rye998 (talk) 11:31, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

I wasn't even aware before i saw this that Fanapi had an article but yeah it needs the (2010) per project standards but not wp:Crystal and WP:NOR.Jason Rees (talk) 20:32, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

The article itself is a stub, too. It needs to be expanded. If it isn't, then the article shouldn't even be there; it should be deleted. Rye998 (talk) 20:40, 20 September 2010 (UTC) Yeah i agree - and ill see what i can do over the next few days.Jason Rees (talk) 20:55, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Infobox Hurricane Current

i think we should try this out. Anirudh Emani (talk) 14:00, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

Look through the archives, we dont use it as its too hard to keep it upto date.Jason Rees (talk) 03:27, 23 September 2010 (UTC)

Vandalism

There are some things I noticed in the article that are related to vandalism, like Malaou being listed as a category 5 and a 2009 chart being mentioned there. What's the big deal about this? Rye998 (talk) 15:35, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

Yeah its vandalism.Jason Rees (talk) 15:41, 9 October 2010 (UTC)
