Knock out format

It looks very likely that there will be a knock out format. FC Edmonton's GM, Mel Kowalchuck basically confirmed this on the "Its Called Football" podcast on Canadian Soccer News by confirming that FC Edmonton will be playing Toronto FC at Commonwealth Stadium. There was never any mention on playing Montreal Impact or Vancouver Whitecaps. --Coppercanuck (talk) 14:51, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

The TFC coach stated this as well, but I haven't added it since there are no confirmed dates or fields. The match-up this year is TFC v. FCE and Impact v. Whitecaps. I know the winners will have a series to see who is the champion and I suspect that the losers will as well to see who finishes third. This will determine the match-ups for 2012. I hope they return to a full head-to-head series instead. If they can have national cups in Europe, I don't see why they can't in Canada as well. Match Format

• City name is all that is required unless there are two teams in the city. Full club name is not the usual format for tournaments. See the Premier League or MLS matches as a guideline.
• Collapsed is better and not more difficult to read.
  1. The important information (score, teams, location) are present when collapsed.
  2. The "fan information" (scorers, referee, pitch, attendance) are hidden to avoid clutter.

walter once agian you are bringing in to much emotion into wiki. Simply put you dont own the page and you cant alwasy have it your way. that being said you are right about the collapsible boxs. we should change them back but we need to keep the team names. the match isnt montreal vs vancouver. the cities are not fighting agaisnt each other that is just silly its the actual teams. we need to add them in. also i can see you have a history of trolling pages. i respectfuly ask you not to make the canadian championship one of them. thank you and i m looking forward to working with you in the future Hugo1009 (talk) 21:38, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

I would even suggest to use regular, uncollapsed football boxes since this tournament has only a semifinal and a finals stage, which automatically makes every single match roughly equally important. If this were a competition with a lot more of teams like 2010–11 FA Cup or 2010–11 DFB-Pokal, the use of the collapsed version would be more adequate, but even then, the rounds from the quarterfinals onwards always use the uncollapsed Footballbox.

Regarding the teamnames, you may pipe out the FC (or similar) parts if these are not necessary for comprehension (i.e. "Montreal Impact" instead of "Montreal Impact FC"); however, if the FC is an integral part of the name, as I presume which might be the case for Toronto FC, it might actually be better if it is left in. --Soccer-holic^{I hear voices in my head...} 03:36, 19 February 2011 (UTC)

walter i though we decided on keeping the full names of the l'équipe since its an integral part of the name. i suggest you re read what soccer-holic wrote above this.

On another point i want to talk about the flags on the brackets. when the brackets for first created they had the provincial flags beside the teams. when i put them in i was trying to follow the same format for the largest canadian soccer championship which is The Challenge Trophy. i believe that since most provinces had their flags before they joined the canadian conferadtion they have earned the right to have them up on the brackets. I'm just following-up on the decision made in Wikipedia:WikiProject Football‎. Check the archives. I'll remove the flags from The Challenge Trophy article if you want since they're against WP:MOSFLAG. Unless they're representing the country or province that the flags represent, the flag shouldn't be used. So it's acceptable for a provincial soccer team at the Canada Games or for Toronto FC in Champion's league play, no so sure about a tournament of this nature. Goal in the abandoned match

It wasn't a TFC own goal. First, it was credited to Hassli. Second, in football, an own goal is only considered as such if the ball was not going into the net and it is redirected in such a way as to make it go into the net. See the entry in the article. Hassli's attempt was on-goal. De Guzman's actions cannot be considered to be an own goal. If Hassli had been making a cross to Camilo at the side of the box and De Guzman got his leg on it and it was redirected towards the goal and gone in, it would have been credited as an own goal. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 23:22, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

who did it hit before it entre the net de guzman? I belive u should ask or email the csa whos goal it was. fifa rules clearly state the last person to touch the ball is the one to get the goal or to be MORE clear, they state if a player of the other team touched and changed the direction of the ball it shall thus be called a own goal which de guzman cleary did. I under stand that you are a whitecaps fan and i encourage you to not let your personal beliefs come out in wikipedia. If you want to debat about the goal go to voyageurs forms and leave the facts to wikipedia. I fine it very wierd that you your self do not know fifa rules on a own goal, being a vet wikipedia editor.
