U.S. involvement?
editIs there any information on the U.S. involvement/opinion in these protests? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.13.40.211 (talk) 01:03, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
Proposed split
editI think we should consider dividing this article into protests against the Iraqi government, which are part of the Arab Spring, and another article entitled 2011 Kurdish protests in Iraq. While Kurdish protests in Syria have largely focused on reforming the Syrian government, Kurdish protests in Iraq have largely been aimed at reforming or toppling the government of Iraqi Kurdistan or negotiating a new status for the Kurdistan Region (as noted by sources cited on this page). Meanwhile, protests in Baghdad, Basra, and other Arab-majority parts of Iraq have been against the Maliki government and (to a lesser extent) the continuing presence of United States military personnel in the country. They're entirely different protest movements, and one is part of the Arab Spring and the other is not. -Kudzu1 (talk) 03:25, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
Ongoing?
editAre these protests still ongoing? The last news are from the end of April. HeadlessMaster (talk) 16:19, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

Again, no updates since August 12. HeadlessMaster (talk) 15:19, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
Dohuk Riots
editOver the weekend there was an Islamic inspired riots all over northern Iraqi province of Dohuk. There is already a wikipedia page on it, and I'm wondering if it should also be mentioned here as it is a recent islamic inspired movement. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.112.63.195 (talk) 07:41, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
Merge
editThere tons of articles about the Iraqi protests of 2011, and I don't think there is a need for them, I think since they all occured around the same time and they were all influenced by the Arab Spring and that each article is small they should all be merged. December 2012 uprising
editA huge uprising has broken out in the Sunni Arab provinces of Iraq that has been ongoing for over a month now. Should we create a second article, or change the name and scope of this one? I'm surprised no one has mentioned it yet. NightShadeAEB (talk) 11:49, 26 January 2013 (UTC)
- A second article; 2012–2013 Iraqi protests (or whatever common name RS use). Current protests are very different from the those in 2011. Unless reliable sources say they are one event (which they don't). Mohamed CJ (talk) 12:36, 26 January 2013 (UTC)
- I'm inclined to agree with Mohamed CJ; the initial protests were more over issues of corruption and social services etc, whereas these new protests mostly relate to the marginalization of Sunni's in post-Saddam Iraq (although granted Shia groups are becoming more involved now). I've added some stuff to this article about the current protests since the 2012-2013 article was deleted, but I do agree that a separate article would likely make more sense. MrPenguin20 (talk) 05:00, 28 January 2013 (UTC)
- Can someone create a new article about these new protests and move the content about the 2012-2013 events into that new article? the causes are different and it seems that not most of iraq has protested (although the population protesting i.e. sunni arab - are a significant minority) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.97.20.165 (talk) 04:17, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
- Ok I've created an article for the new protests - 2012–2013 Iraqi protests. MrPenguin20 (talk) 19:01, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
