This wasn't a bus bombing
editFrom what the TV news is reporting, an explosive device placed beside a telephone booth went off. A bus stopped to pick up passengers on the sidewalk and was damaged. But it wasn't a bus bombing in the strict sense. Consider changing the title to 2011 Jerusalem bomb attack.—Biosketch (talk) 18:04, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
- Agreed. --GHcool (talk) 18:41, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
- Seconded. Ruby Tuesday ALMWR (talk) 19:13, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
- I have to disagree. The bombing happened at a bus station. And hit a bus.--BabbaQ (talk) 19:36, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
- In Hebrew there's no distinction between "station" and "stop" in the language. They're both tahana. The attack didn't happen at the bus station on Jaffa Road, though. It happened the next block over on Shazar Boulevard, amid a row of bus stops on the sidewalk. The explosive bag was left at a telephone booth on a sidewalk near a kiosk. "Bus bombing" evokes the suicide bombing attacks of the 90s. Today's attack didn't necessarily target a bus. Unless it was detonated by remote, it must have just happened to go off right when a bus pulled over to take and drop off passengers. The title is therefore misleading and inaccurate.—Biosketch (talk) 20:43, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
- It happend next to a bus stop (see source) - I have changed the name of the article so that people would avoid confusion. TheCuriousGnome (talk) 21:00, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
- agreed with the above, definaetly not a bus bombing.Lihaas (talk) 00:38, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

Location of the attack
editEven according to the source cited in the lead, the attack did not take place "opposite the central bus station," which is what the lead says. It took place on the next block over, just outside Binyanei HaUma.

- if thats the case fell free to edit as such. obviously hebrew (and even arabic) sources are gonna be better on this.Lihaas (talk) 22:31, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
- I've decided to sit this one out as an editor and restrict my comments to the Discussion page for the time being. But if I have time before work tomorrow and the article won't have been deleted by the time I'm back home in the evening, I'll try to get some pictures of the attack scene with my phone and make them available for use in the article.—Biosketch (talk) 23:15, 23 March 2011 (UTC)

editAs promised, these images are available if editors wish to incorporate them into the article:

- what are the sources on the pic? if we add it ,. it may be removed for violations. its certainly good enough to post on the page (and infobox) but can we have the source fro it?Lihaas (talk) 21:03, 24 March 2011 (UTC)
Pardon? The source of the pic is me, and I don't have any journalistic credentials. What violations could it be removed for?—Biosketch (talk) 22:37, 24 March 2011 (UTC)
palestinian? and major?
editthe see also says palestinian political violence, yet the article has no sourced statement of claims. therefore it is both pov and synthesis to jump to a conclusion. Furthermore, what makes this a MAJOR attack? (per the templatE)Lihaas (talk) 20:59, 24 March 2011 (UTC)
- You may be right. I guess it was a Thai worker. They seem to stand behind all of the terror attacks in Israel. Maybe the Hammas is a Thai organization also! 84.95.28.246 (talk) 23:44, 24 March 2011 (UTC)
- That it is "major" would appear to be supported by the comments on it by all of those world leaders.--Epeefleche (talk) 00:57, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- Have to agree, we need to wait till the investigation concludes and information about who did it becomes available. I call it 'major' because it's the first in many years so that solo thing, its uniqueness so to speak, given it's the first - and may it be the last - in many years. Nekamah (talk) 07:28, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- It indeed is a notable attack - a multi-casualty terrorist attack carried out in a crowded place in the capital of Israel, in one of the major population centers in Israel, after three years of relative quietness. TheCuriousGnome (talk) 12:46, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
==DYK nomination of 2011 Jerusalem bus stop bombing
editHello! Your submission of 2011 Jerusalem bus stop bombing at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and I think the overall qualifications have been met. The topic is notable, the cites are accurate, the length is good. I suggest:
- reducing the intro to 2-3 sentences max, which is becoming the Wikipedia standard - relocate more detailed information to article sections.
- improving some of the cites, like the NY Times article, which could be a little better by including the cited article's author/writer.
- I especially appreciate that Israel and Palestinian topics are very controversial, and I think you did a good job keeping things neutral, generally speaking. From a neutrality standpoint I'd want to know if there was an event, policy, altercation, etc... that may have resulted iin this attack - was it (from the point of view of the Palestinians (or others?) provoked?
- I briefly looked over some of the comments above from other editors and they ideally would be addressed where reasonable.
I'm going to sleep now, if you want more input go to my talk page and I'll get back to you. Overall a good job with your nomination's entry . Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Leidseplein (talk) 06:46, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
