Release dates of outgoing players
editIn previous season articles, I have put 1 July as the date a player is released from the club, despite the announcement usually coming in late May. This is because the season does not technically start, and the transfer window does not technically open, until 1 July. However, in this article I have now changed it to the date on which the releases are made, and the join date that on which the player in questions signs for their new club. Does anyone have any thoughts on this, i.e. what is your preference? Thanks. Andre666 (talk) 08:49, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
- To my knowledge, the transfer window does not need to be open for a club to sign a free agent (a player released from their most recent club), therefore the people who were released (Holmes, Bialkowski, etc.) did join their new clubs on the day listed; the case is not the same for players going out on loan, i.e. in this case Aaron Martin, who would have had to wait until 1 July to join the new club as that is when the window opens. Is that correct? Andre666 (talk) 08:51, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
Manager and coaching staff section
editI agree that the change of management and coaching staff deserves more than one line, but this can go in the lead for the reason of format. Southampton season articles, as we are writing them, contain the following sections: Pre-season, League, FA Cup, Other cup, Squad statistics, Transfers, References. No additional sections should be made for specific events like these, otherwise a range of articles would be very different. I say we put this managerial stuff in a section in the lead, as I had done originally but with more information; that is where general season overview stuff goes anyway, so it is where it fits with the consistent format.
