Team runner up ranking

I've checked how many points a team will -at least- need to finish second in their group. My results are these:

K - 12*

J - 11*

C - 9*

G - 9

I - 9

------

A - 8

B - 8*

D - 8

E - 8

F - 8*

H - 8*

If a team becomes unable to reach 9 points, they will not be able to finish as a top 5 runner-up. -- Lejman (talk) 20:05, 7 September 2014 (UTC)

• = Equal to the current points total for runner-up in the group.

After 23 September I have done the calculations and the points currently required for qualification is 14pts (since runners-up in groups C and K can reach 15pts, group J 14pts and groups A, F, I can max have 13pts so one team on 13 may be eliminated at worse). In same way lowest amounts of points for runners-up makes elimination at 9 pts (since group K has at least 12pts, group J has 11pts, groups B and I has 10 pts, and many others have 9, making 9 possible to go through.) Now 13 points is enough to qualify (C and K can still reach 15 points, J 14, I 13. Other group runner ups cannot reach more than 12.) 10 points is required to qualify. @Lejman: No it was not news :), I made the calculations earlier, but forgot to write it here so thank you for the update. Last hours I have tried to find rules and regulations for tournament sine it is not written in article and I haven't seen any, but I cant find it. I have heard that head-to-head record goes before goal differential but is there official regulations anywhere to confirm? In such case for example Bolzano should be red and not yellow as they can not pass TPS after having won 4-2 but lost 9-0 in Finland. QED237 (talk) 23:10, 24 September 2014 (UTC)

Sorry made a mistake, Bolzano is already eliminated as they cant reach 10pts but I would still like to see some regulations. For example is there seeding in play-off, can Växjö pass Sparta if they end on same points? and so on. QED237 (talk) 23:16, 24 September 2014 (UTC)

Playoff seedings

CHL has now released the official regulations and tiebeakers (not a second to soon) if teams have same points both in group and runners-up table. [1]. I will work on this and add the information to the page (similar to football champions league) very soon.

It was also annonced that there wil be seedings in the playoff with 8 group-winners being seeded and the three worst group-winners and the five runners-up will be unseeded (so the best group winners can not meet which is reasonable, a team who won all group matches should not meet an other team who also won everything).

I calculated the best points possible for all group winners and found that three groups can not reach 14pts (group A max 13pts and groups E and G 12 pts) so all group winners with 14 pts or will be seeded. Also calculating worst possible points for group winner say they can be seeded on 11pts so no group winner is clearly unseeded sice all possible group can have winners reaching 12 points or more. TPS qualified

Okay, so I'm gonna color TPS as qualified because of this:

• With twelve points they already defeat any finished runner-up team, aside from the other four top-5 runner-ups.
• The runner-ups in groups A and B cannot get more than 11 points (Liberec OT win and Färjestad win, respectively).
• If Spartak Prague defeat Adler Mannerheim in group G, they will win their group ahead of Växjö on head-to-head record. Växjö's +5 goal differential will not be enough, as TPS has a +9 goal differential.

@Lejman: Yes you are right, I was a bit cofused first since I watched a game and did not know all other scores, which is why I reverted you (second placed table was not all updated). Ah, nods. No worries, I knew it looked suspicious. On a side note, I sorted Lukko ahead of Luleå on away goals, but apparently that's not a factor here. (Unlike goal difference.) Lukko is still sorted ahead of Luleå, but that's due to last year's ranking in their national championship, a peculiar rule. -- Lejman (talk) 23:32, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
