Honours in the Monarch's own gift

edit

Currently the line above the Order of the Thistle section reads: "Below are the individuals appointed by Elizabeth II in her right as Queen of the United Kingdom, on advice of the British Government". This is misleading since the Order of the Garter, the Order of the Thistle, the Order of Merit, the Royal Victorian Order and the Royal Victorian Chain are honours which are not awarded on advice of the Government. Also is there at the moment a reliable source for those appointments and for the appointment of the Rt Hon. The Lord Smith of Kelvin as Chancellor of the Order of the Thistle? They will probably be published in the London Gazette or on the Royal Household website [1] in a few days. Björn Knutson (talk) 00:28, 31 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

The London Gazette does name Lord Smith as the Chancellor of the Order of the Thistle. http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/60728/supplements/1.htm Nford24 (Want to have a chat?) 05:28, 1 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Given that Rms125a@hotmail.com (talk · contribs) is a rather senior editor, I thought I wouldn't just revert this edit but query the removal of the redlinks here. Given that both Hagaman and Ballantyne are clearly notable, why would WP:RED not apply? Schwede66 17:54, 1 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your input. WP:RED states :"A red link to an article that will plausibly be created in the future should be left alone rather than being created as a minimal stub article that has no useful information." The names themselves are of no informational value and there is no indication that any articles will be created any time in the near future. However, upon reconsideration, I see your point and will rv that portion of my editing to which you have raised an understandable objection. Yours, Quis separabit? 21:48, 1 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
