Rookies and qualifying

edit

There is a statement above the entry list claiming that rookies are exempt from qualifying, which is cited to a radio broadcast during which this was allegedly said. That is not a reliable source and there is no further explanation. Is this true and if so, why are they exempt?Tvx1 17:56, 20 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

There doesn't appear to be any statement saying they are "exempt from qualifying." The statement said/says "they are expected to attempt to qualify." However, it may be better to word it for now "expected to enter," as the official entry list has not yet been made public. In addition, Trackside With Curt Cavin and Kevin Lee is not to be considered an "unreliable source." It is a weekly IndyCar-based radio news program on WFNI, hosted by Kevin Lee of the IndyCar broadcast team on NBCSN, and Curt Cavin, a former sports writer for The Indianapolis Star and now IndyCar Series publicist. Alonso has no experience in oval racing, or does he? F1 is not known for slipstreming duels and overtaking, but rather processions, with overtaking mainly due to pit stops and drag reduction. -- Matthead  Discuß   15:36, 25 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Formula One and Indy 500

edit

The header states: The event will also feature Fernando Alonso, the first active World Champion Formula One driver to contest the race for several decades. With the following commented out. "Andretti, Fittipaldi, Mansell and Villeneuve were not active in Formula One while taking part." Is it referring to Michael Andretti or Mario Andretti? Because Mario did run F1 full-time and still drove at Indy during a period in the late 70s and early 80s. And he was a World Champion after 1978. It would need a little double-checking, but Mario drove full time in F1 and still drove Indy between 1975 and 1981. So not sure if "several decades" is the right way to put it. That's very ambiguous. One might think it's referring to the 1960s. DoctorindyTalk 12:56, 26 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Rule changes

edit

"A series of procedural rule changes were implemented by the series for the 2017 season, however, none of the rule changes significantly affected the Indianapolis 500". Wouldn't it be better to have a short note and a link to the series regulations then rather than pad this long article out with them? Britmax (talk) 15:49, 29 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Teo Fabi

edit

This way of redaction is a little bit ambiguous: «The event also featured Fernando Alonso, the first active Formula One World Championship driver to contest the race since Teo Fabi in 1984». Teo Fabi does not won any World Championship. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.124.24.5 (talk) 20:34, 4 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

The Formula One World Championship refers to the series as a whole, and not the World Drivers Champion -2604:2D80:800A:8223:99BD:45D0:6523:4ED0 (talk) 23:09, 5 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
