I think the name of article should be 2019 Iraqi protests or October 2019 Iraqi protests, because this new protests begun in October 2019 --FPP (talk) 13:52, 5 October 2019 (UTC)

I also think the new article should be October 2019 Iraqi protests. These protests are different in many ways from previous protests, despite some similarities, especially in magnitude, the severity of the government response, and the evolving political and geopolitical context. Agreed. October 2019 protests are totally different than 2018, and started by the firing of Lt. Gen. Abdul-Wahab al-Saadi who led Iraqi special forces "golden division" counterterrorism operations which were highly successful in combating ISIS. This is notable because Saadi was very popular for improving Iraq's situation against corruption and outside influence from Iran, which was a major reason for the new 2019 protests. The reason for the protests, the causes, catalysts, and general thrust, as well as the types of events such as number of people killed, why, and the different stakeholder types all make this a totally October 2019 totally different from 2018, and should be new article. As the infobox indicates: poor basic services and unemployment, etc. are the causes of these protests. You can't single out just one reason for 2018 and 2019 protests. It's better to group them together. STSC (talk) 14:46, 12 October 2019 (UTC)

I think its worth mentioning that the 2015-6 protest had similar causes too, but correctly merit a separate article because of important differences including in their genesis. Iraqis and Iraq watchers are not going to talk about the "protests of 2015-19"; they are going to talk about each protest movement/moment/logic on its own terms. Is there any way I can use {{Location map+}} to create a map for this article showing the 4 places the protests are occuring? (viz. Baghdad, Amara, Nasiriya, and Basra.) The two renaming issues intersect - but if 2019 Iraq protests became October 2019 Iraqi protests, then it would definitely have to be renamed October–November 2019 Iraqi protests, and unless the protests suddenly stop on Sunday in response to Mahdi's promised resignation offer, it would again have to be renamed to October–December 2019 Iraqi protests. So 2018 Iraqi protests for this article, and keeping 2019 Iraqi protests for the other article seems reasonable to me (in fact, the latter might have to become 2019–2020 Iraqi protests). Aspect-specific sections and splits

As in Template:2019 Hong Kong protests, if there is enough material in the sources (I think there is), and if there are enough active editors (probably not me), then starting to organise some of the aspects together (as per the sources and/or similar aspects to the HK case) in thematic subsections, rather than only as a chronology, might make sense. If/when the material is too much for individual protest articles, then it could be split, in a somewhat similar way to the HK articles. Assassination has been a security services tactic in Iraq since (at least) the post-2003 invasion period, by unidentified groups (possibly multiple groups), so it's a known, long-term phenomenon, for eliminating Iraqi academics and dissidents, with a lack of serious, independent investigations. • Comment: At WP:RMTR User:Randy Kryn said the move target should be '2015–2018' instead of '2015–18' per Wikipedia style. But there is an existing redirect at 2015–2019 Iraqi protests, so maybe the end year should be 2019 rather than 2018. This needs a discussion. Also keep in mind the prior discussion (above) at #Requested move 28 November 2019. EdJohnston (talk) 13:32, 18 April 2020 (UTC)
